Thread: Lets discover once & for all whats the best weapon crafting design & best attacks to do the most DOT

This is a server wide project I'd like to propose so weaponsmiths can once and for all determine what weapon design philosophy and weapon attacks (and choice of powerups)will do the most DOT (Damage Over Time).


Obviously, the safest and most effective test would be against 300,000 HAM Large Tower Turrets. If you don't have 80m ranged arms, find a friend to bug the turret for you with a vehicle.


AND PLEASE REPORT DATA WITH ONLY ONE PERSON/WEAPON DESTROYING A TURRET.


I've always found this debate to be interesting, does DPS on a weapon really mean anything? Is there more to doing hardcore DPS than what the stat on the weapon reveals?


My reasoning, I met a guy on my server of Radiant with a vastly different weapon than I had crafted for my friends who are hardcore PVP'ers. I mainly make weapons with the approach of capping damage and hopefully SAC as well.


But the guy I met had a sac capped adv. laser rifle with a base speed of 1.89 and with a 34%ish speed powerup, went down to .076 speed. The weaponwas made with 180ish power cellsand oddly,had only 375ish min damage and 1058 max damage.


We went out and killed some Bols together (he really wanted to show me his ideas!) and were pretty much equal when it came to the Bols because they only had 7K to 8K ham.


However,his rate of fire really impressed me because he threw in a default ranged attack between each special he used. His action pool dropped much faster than mine, but for short battles, his idea worked and taught me something. He was very fond of speed powerups and said he could tell immediately when a powerup ran out. I've personally never used anything but SAC powerups myself.


So my next idea was to test this new information against something that would be safe and take a long time to kill, the obvious target, the 300,000 HAM Large Tower Turrett. I found a base with 4 large turrets and tested my macro, which alternated between Improved Head Shot and Advanced Startle Shot. It took me 8:15 to 8:20 (per turrett) to kill two turrets with this macro.


Next, I threw in a default ranged shot attack into my macro between each special, the next two turrets I killed in 7:30 and 7:32 (again, time per turrett). I used my SAC powerups and my action pool never went below 80%. This is a pretty significant gain, approximately 10% faster than my previous approach!


After reading the 400+dps thread, I saw a couple of other interesting ideas and claims that more damage over time could be done using pure damage/pure speed weapon design and all default attacks.


So I figure, why not make a thread on the WS forum, we all have tons of customers and gather some data together against 300,000K turrets and find out once and for all, currently, what is the ideal weapon crafting design and what is the ideal use of attacks to do the most damage over time.


Now this study may not be the "be all end all" approach to combat in pvp, but in PVE applications, it could be really awesome. And it will definately determine what is the best way to kill a large tower turret!


I'm gonna personally aquire some good energy cells and make a new weapon with the damage/speed approach and try the two lowest action cost attacks. I'm gonna use a variety of powerups as well.


If you're interested in this, feel free to contact your customers or gear up and go beatdown some LTT's. And for the sake of obtaining good results, lets post, atleast a 2 LLT average of kill times to eliminate the variable of missed shots and critical shots.


Feel free to add in any comments, your ideas, theories on what we may uncover. And please, no lying, I think if we get enough players involved, we're gonna find that each combination of weapon design, weapon attacks and powerup choice will create very accurate times per approach towards blowing up the LTT's.

i'd just like to put my backing to this idea, soon as i'm home from work i'll try some out. it is sad that after all this time we're still unsure as to the best design for damage output, especiallly when we all start to bicker about our way being best! good luck all
