Lots of people sell the +1 WS experimentation skill tapes for about 1 million buyouts. I've seen some +2s for 1.75. Now. I don't mind buying some +2s for 1.75, but I do NOT find myself inching my way along with +1 tapes to become a 12 point smith.
What is the big deal with 12 point smiths anyways. They get better durability and lower HAM and thats it, right?
I will buy +2 and above tapes, but you only have so many pieces of clothing to put tapes into. Leggings, Chest, etc. Multiple tapes don't stack in the same cloth item so a bunch of +1 tapes are trash.
I've been hunting them myself a bit. Tuskan Fort, Guano Caves, I hear Death Watch Bunker has +15-25 tapes. Any of the Corvette or Imperial theme park missions have them prevalently? I hear some mean guys on Endor sometimes have them also.
I just returned from about 3 months off. It wasn't so common or crazed to be a 12 point smith at the time, but I was one of the upper echelon Weaponsmiths at one time or another.

Alright. Since items are socketed and Weapon Experimentation doesn't stack in the same item. How many items are socketed. All of the armor slot pieces? I'm hearing only the shirt, belt, and bandolier. That means with the Bandolier at +3, you need a +9 tape and a +8 tape to reach a 12 point master?

As a wookie I have socketed battle vest, hood, gloves, belt and the WS toolbelt also socketed. I think waist wraps can be socketed too so that is 6 clothing itmes I can put tapes in.

I think just about every peice of clothing can be socketed pants shirt robe gloves belt headware I think. So with plus ones in all your clothing and the toolkit you can make just about 11 you will need higher tapes to get farther.

Shirt, belt, bandolier (can't put a tape here if you have a WS toolkit), boots, pants, jacket/vest, gloves and I'm pretty sure you can get a socketed hat.
Which means you need to average about +2.5 weapon expimentation per tape if you can find socketed gear for every slot.
