I am very new to weaponsmithing, having reached master just last week. Trying to gather the resources to craft good weapons is overwhelming to say the least, even with tons of help from guildies. So here is my question.
How do most people go about getting resources? I know about SWGCraft and how useful it is but do you always check and mine something of whatever is in shift? Which materials do you usually mine? Do you subcontract or mine yourself? Have you developed a feeling as to how often materials of certain quality spawn?
Other than Irolunn and the materials for advanced subs which other resources do you feel its worth stocking in large quantities (>100k units)? (I already need more storage!!)
Boy does polonium suck.

I wish I got $1 every time I referred somebody to Fooman's Tool. But I'll do it anyway for free because it simply rocks. It takes a little time to set up and get used to, but it will help you immensely.
go to swgcraft.com and check the downloads section. Grab the tool and the manual.

look on swgcraft for anything of interest, especially ABPH stuff and steel/iron/copper to fill generic metal/ferrous slots.
if there's something good, do you havea resource of thattype already? if not, mine a crapload of it
if yes, is it better than the one you have now? if yes, mine a crapload of it
if not, is it only slightly worse than the one you have now? if yes, mine enough of it so that you're not screwed if you run out of the better one
if not, don't bother unless you're really short on good resources. crap resources make crap products, but that's (arguably) better than no products at all.
you will use enormous amounts of all the ABPH stuff and whatever you're using to fill generic metal slots. most of the other named resources are used in relatively small amounts and only in a few weapons, so 100k of those will last a really long time.
there's no guarantee of resource spawn frequency or quality, so every time something comes up, assume you won't be seeing it again 6+ months and mine accordingly. if a better one pops up,mine tons ofthat and sell or store the old one.
if youdo for a while, you end up with so much crap that you need at least one extra storage house/factory to keep it in. also you will need a second account or contract miners to do most of the mining for you. the four lots you have after vendor house, storage house, and two factories aren't going to be enough unless you only sell a few guns a day and have no intention of expanding.
