Hi everyone,

Kind of noticed while grinding xp at Dath that everyone and his r2 droids are more or less using the same weapons

(swordsmen - scythes, pistoleers - geo pistols, riflemen - T21 etc etc.)

was wondering if it would make the game more diverse if thei introduced elite weapons, basically allow elite certification at the master level of each maste profession.

the elite weapon would be craftable by weaponsmiths and usable by the said master as he would the best weapon he can get his hands on (i.e. if a swordman wanted to run through the game weilding a two handed ax instead of the scythe, he would not have to suffer lesser damage etc.)

is this a workabel suggestion?

think it would go a long way in adding diversity to the weapons used by players and might even allow player personalised weapons

imagine having your own signature pistol!!

so you're saying make it so whatever weapon a master is holding is the best weapon he can hold?

lol.. i can see a pikeman running around with a wooden staff

might be neat, tough i have no idea how hard/easy it might be to program any coding in for something like this. probably not a feasible idea, but nice thinking.

hahaha

in principle, if he wanted to

he could be some monk of sorts (shaolin anyone?)

the onylreal draw back i can think of is that i guess it can lead to some griefing, in the sense that people start to underestimate what a person is capable of coz of what they appear to be carrying.

think this had more roleplaying potential then anything pvp i guess

i tend to make special orders for alot of people, so guess am just tired of churning out powerhammers and scythes and t21s

anyone you can refine this idea please do so,

it would be nice if some modicum of variation could ultimately be introduced

I'd like to see the bowcaster kiked up to ap2,this would make it the weapon of choice for any wookie marksman, and best back up for a Wookie rifleman, heck toss in some tissues and a good fang or bone shard and ya may even see them pop up in pvp(gasp).Would also make the bow someting more than the decoration it is now.
Now this wouldnt make a huge impact for anyone else, but at least the wookies would be runnin around with bowcasters like they should be

Good post!

I've been racking my brain trying to substitute the Tangle Pistol for the Geonosian Pistol for the people who can't afford a Geo. Pretty tough, considering the stat difference.

Most combat professions are treated inferior until they hit master level. In which case, the fighters are going to want "the best". I don't think that's going to change much.

At this point, the only reason to make "weaker" weapons (scouts, 2handed curved swords, lances) is so people can do the grind.

After that, it's all about the T-21's and things like that.

I see this as a weapon revamp issue. I don't see any simple tweaks working well here.

If I could, I would revamp weapons along the light-sabre line. They are basic shells which can take power-up components. If you want a krayted power-handler, you can get one, but the power-handler eventually wears out and needs replacing. So the guns become more dependent on loot, and loot can do interesting things to stock guns. You determine slots on a gun by using experimentation points. A maxed-out T21 would have no slots, but a lesser-damage version would have slots. So the trade off becomes a perfect weapon now, or a lesser weapon that could be made way stronger with loot. (This has its own problems, as once the "best" combination is found, all other combinations will be ignored.)

Here's some things that need to be done in orderto get different weapons to be used in the game.

1. Fistly.....we need more weapon schematics. There's not much of a choice out there....

2. Drastically widen the difference between stats.

  • Each profession needs a highdamage weapon.

  • Each profession needs a highspeed weapon.

  • Each profession needs a high accuracy weapon.

  • Each profession needs low HAM weapon.

I know that us WS's can experiment one way or the other.....but the weapon schematics themselves ought to have bonuses in these areas. That way if a combat typehas difficulty hitting a foe (i.e. jedi saber block) let's have a high accuracy pistol, that might be low damage...but will at least get thrugh the blocks etc.

Some people might prefer accruacy, other's speed, others low HAM. I think the system was initially designed this way, but it doesn't work. The other stats just can't compensate for high damage....and thus high damage wins every time.

3. Drastically increase the amount of uses for temporary schematics. (2 scythes.... that's crap)

4. Drastically add a bunch of different types of loot. It needs to be rare/random loot. Maybe you'll find an awsome blaster barrel on some NPC that beats the heck out of any that we can make. Certainly the WS is still needed to assemble the thing into a weapon, but I think that more loot would add a great deal of change.

Thank everyone, the ideas here are pretty good

maybe someone will take notice and implement it in the game

my suggestion for elite weapons was premised on the basis that it would probably take the least amount of work to be implimented

(all the necessary models and mechanics are already in place in respect of the weapons)

All that would have been required would have been to copy the base of each weapon and tweak the stats and of course provide the relevant certifications to the various professions

kinda like the idea of a master swordsman actually using a two handed sword or a fencer using a one handed sword a opposed to a hammer and a baton

it would help make the game more fun for weaponsmiths, coz they'd get to craft a whole variation of things (switching from hammers and t21 to grenades and then back does not count as variation methinks)

Do we have a corresspondent who can take notice of the ideas here?

To everyone who keeps saying the words "more loot" - please stop. If I wanted to play Everquest and be an assembly monkey for the loot whoring combat professions I would have. Sorry to put it that bluntly but new loot drops are not going to make me want to craft more or increase diversity among crafters. As it is now, most people don't want to pay a fair price for a weaponsmith to put together a scythe or hack or anything else if the combat person supplies the "loot" parts. I took up crafting because crafters were supposed to be able to make the BEST items in the game - period. The only viable option I see at the moment to make crafting more open is along the lines of what Sami-jx proposed (more and varied schematics).

Here is what I propose:
1) More and varied schematics - new weapons, race specific weapons, low HAM, high damage, etc.
2) Use different resource stats to make the weapons rather than JUST Overall Qaulity, Shock Resistance, Conductivity, and the like. There are a lot of other stats that would make sense to use on some of the weapons other than the ones listed above so why not use them - even if it is to limit the power of some weapons due to capped resources. BUT, don't just use other stats for capping damage or HAM on weapons - give us a random factor as well. Let's say I make a one-handed curved sword with metal that includes 100 heat resistance and 900 cold resistance. Why not give that weapon a chance for a DoT that deals out cold damage? Say Cold, Health, Strength 100, Duration 50s, Potency 50%, Uses 4000. THAT would give weapon makes new and varied weapons with interesting properties. It could even be where you must "sacrifice" one or two experimentation points (not permanent, just not usable to increase that particular weapon) for the chance at a nice DoT.

Well...I thank you for the agreement, but I did also recommend more loot. I see your point as far as not wanting to merely be an assembly guy, but I'm not proposing that.

I think that more weapon enhancements ought to be available. Not just Krayt tissues, but I'd like to see BE tissues. Let those guys experiment and work with WS's to see if they can make new weapons. How about tissue from a diseased creature to add a little disease or poisionsto weapons? How about letting us use crystals in fabricating special blsterpower handlers that might do things like cold damage, or increased armor piercing? I don't want this loot to be ultra common, but I also don't like the idea of having to Krayt hunt in order to make a better pistol. There needs to be more ways to improve our current stocks, and then new schematicslike was mentioned before.I like taking looted things like high energy capacitors and putting them in weapons just to make them a little bit better. Makes the weapon a bit more specialized.

I think that the single biggest thing that hurts the weapon varience....and the WS community....is the whole factory thing. I used to love being a WS, because I'd always be trying to improve my resources....and when someone needed a laser rifle, I'd make the best one I could. These days on Naritus, 50% of all weapons seem to be made by the same guy.....=TROLL=. I'm not knocking =TROLL= He makes good stuff, but when one or two guys get so large....they can dominate the whole system. The only way I stay in business is that I'm the only WS in my guild, and we live in a player city on Naboo....far enough from Coronet, that my fellow guildies check out my vendor first. I make weapons as good or nearly as good as =TROLL= but I think py prices beat his and I have support from my friends.

I guess I'm just ranting here, but I would seriously like to see a revamp of weaponsmith. I know they tried a little a while back and it was complained about...but thay was just a little mod that they threw in and people didn't like it. I'd like to see a publish dedicated to the Weaponsmith....it would not only help the weaponsmith...but every single player in the game that uses weapons would benifit from a WS update.

I think it'd also be neat to add more weapons to the mix. Also, add more weapons that maybe don't do anything much more different as much as break up the "same ol same ol" look and feel.

Heh, for that matter it gets old seeing everyone wearing only Composite 90% of the time.
