Thread: Death decay on weapons
/agree
If weapons had death decay, then no-one would fight and then we wouldn't sell anything. Death decay is bad enough, adding death decay to weapons would probably be the straw the broke the camels back, so to speak.

Whose misconceptions are these? I know combat profession types all looked to blame crafters for death decay when really none of us wanted it either ... it's just human nature and scapegoating.
I think decay through use is enough.
I believe the devs didn't really put death decay in as a vital component for crafters but as a penalty for death. Personally there is a death penalty in another game which I think is great ... basically everytime you die you get 'death points' - these are removed 1 every 8 hours. The first point does nothing. The second penalises your stats by 5% for 5 minutes. The third penalises your stats by 10% for 10 minutes. The fourth penalises your stats by 15% for 15 minutes. And so forth and so on (these numbers are probably not 100% accurate but you get the drift).
So this discourages recklessness in a much more benign way. The numbers might need tweaking for this game system but I certainly think it's a much more elegant solution. No horrible decay while making excessive deaths a huge inconvenience.

TH should have known that weapons don't decay with death. Maybe it was just an oversight, but I find it representative of the devs overall knowledge about what goes into their own game. And I kind of resent him using us as an excuse to justify the crummy decay system that was put in.
