I like your thinking, if I were to do it over I'd try your method.

Thanks for this great idea, I'm doing weaponsmith for a second time and I did the barrels the first time. No more!

The barrels work well with a macro 'cause you only have to click in one place
Your method sounds great for those who have an available factory / extra components, and don't have a macro
BTW: I found that at firearms 4, with just a tiny bit of exp to munitions 4, and then master WS, Heavy Particle Cannons or whatever gave plenty of exp per, and I could pop them on my vendor for like 500 credits a piece and make a tiny bit of my cash back on 'em.

Weaponsmith was my first goal in SWG. I started artisan, sampled like a dog, and crafted my beautiful CDEF guns with pride. Then, when I realised how much fun medic was and how long I had spent just to get to Engineering 2, I shifted goals.
I am now a silent-grinder. I've done 11 professions, and am in the midst of my 12th; good ole Weaponsmith. This time, I'm doing it for keeps.I figured that now that I had the cash for resources I could pull this thing off. So, of course, I researched the standard grinding methods. The results, grinding projectile rifle barrels till the sun sets, didnt leave me thrilled. So I decided that if nobody else would find a different way, I would.
The first tree I climbed was firearms. By the time I gotblaster rifle barrels, I opted to do those because of the slightly higher xp than porjectiles. I dont know if it made a huge difference, but it was worth a shot.
Then I got to firearms 3. I closely examined what new weapons I could now make and was pleased to see the Launcher Pistol among them. It was after close examinatin of the pistol that I had a revlation; they give 210 xp per practive grind. Thats twice as much as the barrels, and the resources arent rare at all.
The problem with this method should be obvious; components. If I were to grind a projectilefeed mechanism and pistol barrel every time I wanted to build one I would be at a net xp loss, or perhaps would break even. So I took the initiative, borrowed a factory, and manufactured the components in crates.SUCCESS! I grinded just as fast asm with barrels, but earned twice as much xp (I never got a macro to work, and still cant. I dont know why). In no time at all I had gotten to firearms 4, and my first wonderful title.
This is where the gears went into overdrive. After extensive testing, I discovered that the Heavy Particle Beam Cannon grants a whopping 550+ xp per item! AMAZING! The catch; slightly more specific resources, and 5 blaster powerhandlers and 1 blaster rifle barrel per item. Thats a heck of a lot of factory time. But trust me, its worth it.
Using this method, I am now 2404. I also sell my beam cannons (6.3 speed 2844 max damage 30 uses) on the bazaar for cheap. I love this method, and consider it superior to all others, including the Heavy Warhead one only because of the RARE EXPENSIVE resources. My method trades factory time and resource burning for a dramatic increase in speed, all with cheap, affordable resources.
So if any grinders, be it for Jedi or love of the profession, are looking for a unique and easier way to get through those useless hours of clicking, then feel free to give my method a shot.

I'm doing WS now an am 0044, grinding heavy war head mechanisms. They give 735 xp. I am breezing through this profession an it ain't even funny. The resources are more specific but if you got the extra cash for them it is well worth it. Talk about a grinding shortcut.

I'm doing heavy warheads too and it only took me about 2 weeks to get all the resources on my own using only 4 10 BER's at a time. This is definitely the way to go if the spawns are there.

Using a hella fast macro and clicking your brains out you can get weaponsmith in 1 day grinding warheads
735xp per shot and about8-10 seconds per item if your fast
about 1 million XP needed
divided by 735xp = 1360 items
1360items times 10 seconds
13600 sec / 60 sec = 226minutes
226 minutes \60 = 3.7 hours
add in time for bathroom breaks training and resting your destroyed clicking fingers....
whalah= master weaponsmith
