Okay, my question is whether or not I should try to become a weaponsmith. So far I am a novice, but I have been playing for like 4 months. All i really want to know is whether or not I should invest the time into becoming one. I play abour 2-3 hours a week and it takes me a goooood while to get xp. AND i am a little disheartened by the whole gazillions of xp you need. Not to mention I keep seeing posts about how its hard to sell your weapons and the like.
So I am wondering, is it worth it? i mean if i dedicate my next 6 months of playing time and then i will be able to make something no one wants, well, i can do that now...
Does anyone see the CU changing player made weapons into a wanted commodity? im not going to become a smuggler so i can slice weapons, and honestly if you need to, then they need to wipe everyone's account and start over, because its a little silly to demand several hours of xp grinding, essencially wasting your playtime repeating the same thing over and over for hours, just to be functional. Then again idk, im still wondering how people can sit in a chair long enough to make it to jedi, and there are TONS of jedi.

if you only play 2 - 3 hours a week, dont waste your time, i play atleast 2 hours pr day, and i have problems keeping up with things like resources spawns, vendor stock, factories and so on, WS is a large time investment.

It depends on what kind of weaponsmith you are planning on being. If you want to try and make the $$$ than it ill take a LOT more than a few hours per week. If you want to be just a guild weaponsmith and craft items for your friends than by all means give it a shot.

OKyour best bet is a good macro to grind out weapon smith. I suggest though it is against the rules to use a 3rd party macro such as autorecorder. Find the crafting macro everyone uses then use it in conjunction with autorecorder. craft two handed axes, as they are simple to make. youll need a factory however to make the reinforcement cores for them.
If you use this method you can gain master WS in a few day's.

I dont think you will enjoy it when playing 2-3 hrs a week. You will need a lot of named resources and harvesting them will consume your time. So you can either grind or gather resources. If you want to craft perhaps try to find a profession that has some crafting and some other actions in it, like a doc. Allthough thats to change soon with the CURB. Perhaps smuggler, with some spice crafting, some slicing and some combat stuff will be fun.
But thats just my idea of course. Even with 2-3 hrs a week you can have fun. Perhaps it will be easier if you become ws but have someone else find resources for you and a merchant to sell the weapons. Perhaps focus on making melee weapons as they use less resources.
Rule nr 1: have fun!

First of all, the gazillions of xp you need are nothing compared to the gazillions of resources you need. There are 10-15 core resources you will need that have to be top quality. In addition, you'll have to have several others in order to make the full boat of weapons. In order to compete as a WS, the resources are the most important thing. Go to swgcraft.com, look up the WS tree and click on the schematic links. That'll give you an idea of what you will need. I'd suggest the best thing to do is work on collecting resources first and foremost. Grind a little bit at a time. Once you have an inventory with a lot of 900+ quality resources, you'll be ready to finish the grind.
Whether you can sell anything depends a lot on the server. On a large server like Bria, you can make a go of it. Not so sure about some of the smaller servers. Vendor location iscrucial. If you can weasel your way into a sizable player city with other decent artisans, you'll get some traffic. Plus you have to have a lot of patience. It takes months to really establish yourself. If you commit to it a long term project, you'll do alright. If you think you can make a fortune overnight, you'll fail. And while 2-3 hours a week is probably not enough time to do it justice, you can probably do it if you are highly organized and keep your vendors and factories in one location.

First of all, congratulations on not spending a ridiculous amount of timeplaying a game like some of us. If your goal is to be a commercially viable weaponsmith I don't see any way you can do that in only 2-3 hours a week of game time. Most of us who spend more time on this profession than would be considered healthy by many probably spend morethan 2-3 hoursstaring at SWGCraft.com waiting for news of the latest great resource spawn.
The problem is you can't really monitor the resource spawns, survey, place harvesters, move harvesters, organize storage, create schematics, do factory runs, load a vendor, check email, etc. in 2-3 hours a week. When you're first starting to gather the resources, it's not unusual for there to be 3-4 resources you could use spawning at the same time.
I certainly don't want to discourage you from crafting as it's really cool to be able to use weapons you crafter yourself or to get positive feedback from others who use your weapons, but that's really the only fun part. All the stuff I mentioned in the previous paragraph is eerily similar to work. If you want to do it for your own enjoyment or just to experience it that's cool. Maybe you can find a guild that has resources but needs a weaponsmith (not highly likley but possible)ormaybe you can partner up with someone who also doesn't have much time to spend and you could split responsibilities (I have two partners in my weapons business).
Another possibility is to have a very narrow focus to your weapons business, like making just grenades. No doubt a great deal of today's grenade business has to do with the Jedi grind and that could change. You wouldn't need all that many resources, and grenade stats aren't scrutinized as critically as weapons stats, so it wouldn't be that hardto mine/buy the needed resources. A lot of smiths don't like to make grenades because of the amount of time it takes to run the components and the grenades, so it would be easier for a newer smith to get a piece of the grenade pie on his server.
