Thread: If it is true that accuracy/defense affect damage then dps rating is even more useless

I have seen some people saying that that accuracy vs defense affect which damage youdo with your weaponand at best rate of accuracy vs defense you will do max damage on your weapon and if you have much less accuracy than the target has defenses you will do the min damage of your weapon.

I am not sure if this is valid or not, but it might be. Damage is no longer random so the range between max and min must be used somewhere.

However if this is true then the the dps rating on weapon is completly useless, even more useless than I consider it now. There is no reason to calculate the average damage since it would depend on the combat situation. If you are fighting targets with very low defense (and you have high accuracy) then the dps would be (max dam+ elemental damage) / speed. If the opposite (like hunting DJM) your damage would probably be min damage of your weapon so dps would be (min dam+elemental damage)/speed.

However the theory that accuracy vs defense affect where on the damage range of your weapon is used might be wrong. My theory has been that the damage you do is average damage x modifier depending on accuracy/defense (and of course multiplied by specail damage modifier)

From my own testing:

  • Lairs - Max damage X special mod.

  • CL 80 animals - Max damage X special mod.

  • CL 90 grand krayt dragon - strong mitigation. (Min damage + (Max-Min) X 0.37) X special mod. This is going to vary with your accuracy stat

This stuff is not hard to test, just not much fun.Use an unenhanced gun, one made with +70 and another with +140 tissues so you have a set of test weapons whose proportions of Max damage to Min, vary.

It is correct. With Center of Being on (+500 defence) I take almost half the damage I do with it off (without accounting for Innate Armor) - both in PvE and PvP - so defence mods are certainly in play when it comes to damage.

Wow, a constructive thread with actual numbers. I think we have a winner. /sarcasm off. Thanks guys for bringing this up. It is so hard to convert those that think DPS is the world.

Is there a listing somewhere of the damage modifers for specials as well as the action use for each special? How is the action usecalculated? Is it the same amount based on the SAC for the gun? Or is there some formula?

I must be missing the point in these DPS discussion. This thread is asking how damage is affected by accuracy.

It is stated thatdamage is affected by several factors -- weapon damage stats, special used, target defense, target level, and, maybe, accuracy. No one appears to doubt this information, with an open question on accuracy.

Therefore - and this is where I must be missing the point - since "damage" is affected by many things, "damger per second" is worthless.

Wouldn't that also lead to the conclusion that "damage" is a worthless measure of a weapon? Where is speed at all relevant in this discussion?

Accuracy versus Defense does add damage. The damage is calculated by this formula, accuracy to about 2-3 pts of damage:

(Accuracy - Target's Defense) * (Max - Min) * .00066255

Please see my post at

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=game_guides&message.id=295640

that explains the very complicated damage calculations in the CU. I also have a Beta Excel Damage Calculator that I'm working on.
