I just learned that weapons and armor can be fixed.. however, I have a question or two..
I bought a weapon repair tool (it said 92% on it) and tried to fix a simple pistol... it failed and broke to 1/1 condition....
Is this because I have no crafting or weapon smithing skills? I am a marksman purely so I wonder if this is the reason... If I need a gun/armor fixed should I take it to a smith or is it ok to try to fix it myself? (maybe the tool was bad?).

Someone posted a very long, well-written post on the state of post-patch-7 repairs this morning, BUT IT HAS BEEN DELETED FOR NO APPARENT REASON.
hopefully someone will repost it because i don't know what the hell they were thinking when they deleted it.

I'm on it.
I've sent out the appropriate PM's, so at the moment i'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt.
As for those repairs, you were the victim of a bad dice roll. That type of failure only occurs about 1-2% of the time. And, other than repair kit quality (which has yet to be proven), there is nothing you can do to improve your rate of success.

Dizzey, search the weaponsmith forums for the MANY threads on repair.
Long-story short, expect to have a weapon degrade fast, get slightly repaired, and buy them more frequently.
One of the many reasons I've dropped prices on many of my vanilla weapons.

Here's the new repairs thread, let's see if they censor that one too.
