Each resource has certain stats like conductivity, overall quality, unit toughness, etc.

When you build a weapon each weapon requires certain resources, like Ditanium Steel and Polonium Iron. Also each weapon has a list of resource stats that are important for that weapon, in most cases ranged weapons rely 50% on conductivity and 50% on overall quality. So you look for the specific resources which have very high values in those two stats. In this example you would be able to make a "perfect" weapon when you have Ditanium Steel with CD and OQ 1000 and Polonium Iron with CD and OQ 1000 (which is by the way impossible since most resources have inherent maximum limits). The nearer you are at the maximum values, the more you know that your weapon will be good (for that weapon type you are building).

You can check at www.swgcraft.com what was the best resource of a certain type (e.g. Ditanium Steel) that was ever available on your server (if it was entered there) and compare it to the resource you have. When the important stats are not too far apart, you have a good resource for that type of weapon you try to build.

When you want to learn about resource caps, look here:

When you need to learn much more, the first thing you should do is read the sticky threads above.

What you require to be a good weaponsmith?
- try to be able craft all weapons, which means collecting 50-60 specific resources
- know your trade, your schematics, your resources.
- always look for better resources than the ones you have. Try to get "the best" resource collection. This is what distinguishes the good WS from the bad ones, it is just the resources that you have at your disposal that makes the difference.
- be prepared to answer a lot of questions about your weapons nicely, e.g. what's the damage of your "best" pistol, sometimes just some obscure ones like how many shots does your rocket launchers have or just easy ones like "U are making weapons?"
- Set up a weapon vendor and KEEP IT STOCKED. You can have the best weapons in the galaxy, if your vendor is empty or low stocked you will be loosing customers fast.

Too add to this, Melee weapons require 100% Shock Resistance and most components i have come across require Unit Toughness 10(0)%

i refer you to the Past Friday Features section, find the crafting guides and learn how to read a schematic, after that its pretty simple
