Thread: Anyone Concerned About Surviving Surveying post-CU?

Quote from the HoC Chat:

<@Brannoc>: How will crafters place harvesters on planets now, since creatures kill low level characters so quickly?
<@Helios_SOE>: If you wish to gather resources in dangerous areas, you should either get a PSG or you could also hire some other players to protect you in the wilds.

Not good for the Master Crafter/Master Merchants out there, considering 500m outside Theed is now a "dangerous area" for a Level 1 toon.

Oh, and God help you if your factories aren't in a player city. Lol

This is the greatest case of false advertising I've seen since I sued the movie The Never Ending Story.

Do you know how bad you have to screw up to get computer nerds to leave a Star Wars game?

I am sure that I will manage. And a little bit of danger will be exciting, right now it's definitely far too easy.

My factories are on Lok. Having a spawn of canyon corsairs or elite mercenaries around them doesn't make working on my factories exciting, it makes it a PITA. It sounds like it will be even worse post-CU.

In this case, I should not have to get buffed to do my "job".

First of all, I was under the impression that post-CU PSGs will protect against only energy damage. That's not much help against animals. Secondly, I think it's sadistic what they're doing to non-combat crafters. The level of danger for them right now is just about perfect. I have a crafter whose only combat skill is Pistols 4 and Ranged Support 3, yet in the last year he's died only once, and that was because Mellichae spawned 500m from Coronet. I've managed to avoid dying by being very careful.Under the CU, it won't matter how careful you are, you're likely to be insta-incapped by a crazed durni that suddenly spawned in back of you . Even spots 1000 meters from Cnet will become "dangerous areas." Does it really make any sense for someone to be instantly incapped by what is basically a rabbit? This is "Star Wars," not "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." Do they really expect crafters to have to get a group of bodyguards together every time they survey or deal with extractors and factories?? That will get old really quickly. How does this make the game more enjoyable? This forced grouping and damage multiplier nonsense has got to be removed. ARRRRGHHHH. For the first time in 1 1/2 years, I'm seriously thinking of quitting. Way to go, SOE!

I know the devs are trying to lure people back from WoW and other games. Many of the combat changes are similar to things in WoW. One of the things I've found about WoW (as reported by friends), is that WoW is not crafter friendly. After your character has reached level 60, there isn't a whole lot to do.

The nice thing about SWG is that if I got bored with crafting, I could go hunting. But, for the most part, the reason why I play is that I really enjoy making weapons. I like talking to my customers, finding out what they want for weapons, explaining how things work in the current combat system, and then making what they want/need. I get a lot of repeat business and good word-of-mouth because people like dealing with me.

For me: I don't care about the GCW. If I want challenging combat, I'll play Ninja Gaiden. If I want a Star Wars shooter, I'll play Republic Commando. I don't play SWG for the combat.

Here is an interesting article on the doom of WoW.

The reports from people on TC indicate that the devs are making this game crafter-unfriendly. How is it going to affect the economy when a bunch of master crafters leave the game?

Let me have a crack at this.. LOADS of crafters leave, the crafters that remain sky rocket their prices as they now not only pay maintenance and energy on Harvs but are paying 250k an hour to 2-3 combat types to look after them. Anyone with a shop outside of player cities (ie surrounded by killer butterflys) that doesnt sell things combat related players buy will go out of business as the crafters who want to buy can't get there and they can't re-stock them anyway. The game becomes even more "own the credits, own the game" than it is now. Noobs with 75k creds look at a 2 mil set of basic armour and a 500k average weapon, shout bah humbug and leave after a month, vets with a year or more time realise that SOE are basically making us start over again with nothing but creds and a bunch of stuff that might be worth 10 times what we paid for it or less than sand on Tattooine, leave as well.. and ummmm.... /shrug

As someone said, I think the above shows that SOE have zero regard for established players and what we want and as long as they get money from someone, be it a 2 year vet, or a string of 1 month noobs trying and leaving, they really don't care. Seeing the development of other MMO's and the support and feedback used to improve them, it's really only the tiniest strings of the SW licence keeping me here right now.

Still smile people, the world might end tomorrow

Lol, you know you're probably right!

There'll be a huge boom of resource dealers, since it'll be much easier to mine just having 0044 Artisan and the rest combat skills, instead of being an actual crafter with no protection. Of course they'll all be competing for the last 15 crafter's business

(god i hope not )
