Weaponsmithing is truly an art. Being a Master Smith for less than 1 month I'm in awe of some of the folks who've been doing this a while. I often feel like Maxwell Smart in saying, "Missed it by THAT much." Even though in many cases I'm using the best ever spawns on my server i still can't always make the same weapons as the long-time smiths.

Could it be the Research Centers? The 12pt skills? Well the fastest LLC on my server without any enhancements is 3.9 by a 10pt smith who's shop isn't in a research center? Is it FS crafting skills? What's the trick?

It also seems that amazing and great successes on combines yeild me the same stats. The only place amazing seems to make a difference is when experimenting for giving you an extra point or2 to play with.

I also wonder aloud if the types of metal used effect the outcome. I mean with all stats being equal is steel a better metal choice than iron? In a discussion of Power Hammers someone who was using 998SR Steel was having better results than me using 1000SR Iron in the same metal slot.

I really hope they don't dummy down Weaponsmithing in the CU. Even with my frustrations of having trouble matching top stats, I appreciate the skill and care required to do so.

There are some tricks you learn with time. For example... having the best resource for the job is not always the best. I have often crafted weapons with lesser resources to get better results. It has to do with how the points in the final build round up. You can often get superior results just because a 1/2% less will let you drop another point into the weapon creation.

There are small things you will pick up on as you craft more. By playing with resources and how you experiment you can do some interesting stuff.

While we are on Tricks of the Trade, I need a little information of my own. I read somewhere when I began the grind (and have since forgotten where) that when you experiment on different components you dont always want to experiment on the damage line. Rifle Stocks for example, do you experiment on range, efficiency, or what? If someone could clear this up or point me to the "post that I lost track of" I would greatly appreciate it. It just seems that a weapon scope would increase range, therefore experiment to increase the range mod on the scope. And feed mechanisms increase ......

Any help you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated. Particularly if you know what post I am talking about.

Fast Flamers & LLCs

Where possible use a form fitted stock

Use a non advanced barrel, although a bit less dmg the extra speed is more important in these.

Krayt tissue. If you get some with even -.5 speed for your llc or flamer and do as above you can reach 2.8 speed and get about 850-900 dmg before slice depending on tissue damage stats. (on my server anyway)

Stocks

Experiment more than 1 or 2 boxes of damage at a time. When doing 4 at a time, as long as i get a great success everytime I achieve 40/40 and .280 speed.

I crafted some 40/40 0.678 stocks, ended up with 4 points to experiment so i stuck em in ham to make some sub 100 mind cost T21s.

Never Ever! Ever EVER!! craft flamers or LLCs with crafted stocks. make them stockless or as Lotok said use a form fitted stock.

.6 speed is quite a nasty speed. Try doing 4 or 5 points at a time makingf sure they are great successes. Should get itlower by about .4

Stocks = damage try to get 40/40 on advanced ones.

Scopes experiment range/efficiency for high accuracy or 0 ham scopes.

We had an SR 695 Corellian Deciduous on Bria and I've got some .277 stocks that are 40/40.
