Thread: Burning Out? Greed? or just being anti-social?

To all you master weaponsmiths, what do you charge your customers for making them krayt enhanced weps when they bring them to you? The reason I ask is because I'm gettingfed up with the whole business....

I used to charge the cost of the gun - I looked at this as a favor basically.I'm not gonna do this anymore because a) it takes a lot of time b)I make the same amount of money selling stock items from the vendor and c)I was essentially making guns that would sell for several hundreds of thousands and making no profit doing it.Granted I didn't loot the krayt but in a lot of cases - neither did the customer.

I then started asking for a tissue for every 2 or 3 (weapons are free) I make with a guarantee that if I critical fail on any one, I would instead use the extra and charge for the weapons. Well between the tells, the time it takes to discuss/explain and coordinate, the critical fails I was eating and the resistance on some to get an extra one they didn't have - I would always somehow end up back in the old pay for the gun approach. At this point I'm thinking - a krayt per gun with no guarantee.

The reason I ask is that however I do it, I would want to be in the ballpark and not sound greedy. I rarely advertise my store - it's pretty out of the way - yet I still get a lot morecustomers then I want. I would like to be pretty much be a guild crafter but I do have a few other neighboring guilds that I want to help.I don't know of a way to somehow limit my business to them alone - since my guild is pretty big - and even as an officer - I'm not always sure whether someone is in my guild or not or whether they belong to one from our informal alliance. Making the krayt guns can be fun and having one or two for myself is cool because I can make a few for friends. Maybe I'm just starting to burn out with all the tellsand I'm looking for some way to keep crafting without all the hassle ....

is anyone else falling into the same trap?

On Lowca it seems that most people now expect all their guns to be pre-sliced krayt. No one ever asks if I could make a gun, it's always "do you have any 30% damage sliced krayt guns".

I don't really care, less pain in the ass and more time to work on rifleman and gank TEF rebels at Anchorhead.

My problem is I take too much responsibility. I can't help myself. When I made a krayt Scatter PIstol for someone who provided me the tissue, and I moderately success'd it (i.e fail) so the benefit was hardly noticeable, I gave it to her for free. It was still better than a stock scatter ... but I felt terrible about it.

Then she brings me another one and I critical fail outright making the handler. I gave her a laser carbine for half price.

I know it's stupid, but I felt so guilty!

I have the smae problem i dont want to make alot of guns atm. I like making guns for friends and make krayt guns only for free or in exchange for tissues1 for 2 guns or 1 for 1 and i take all risks. I dont have that much cash comparied to what i could have but there are easier ways to make cr if i ever go under a mil. 300k an hr is easy to get on dant even for a combat gimped master crafter like me

Ciirybeccaskyr you obviously havent been to dant yet have you. Listen and learn to get 40k missions you need 4(with big pets) to 8 players just to be offered them at terminal. Also these same people and pets have to be close to the actual terminal for the missions to show. So just because you group with guild before you go doesnt get you 40k missions. SO do the maths 4-8 players is 5-10k per mission which especially in groups that size, as theybecome unwielding as players die and they will and the group will/wont wait for them. The spawns unlike the pubams on endorDB on incap there is no chance to be healed once down so its a 1-2km walk. Myself with a GSP and a tusk cat could get 10k missions on tat. So dant is not pernerf endor people you cant solo 22k kunga mission because you dont get offered them........ So dont go bumping prices, babbling about 280k/hour rubbish.....nuf said.....

IMHO, you're burning out and possibly letting players take advantage of you.

When I craft a Krayt weapon, I now charge a flat 20,000c for ranged weapons and 30,000c for Heavy Commando weapons. I used to do it for my vendor price but when I started I got a FLOOD of extra business. I probably make 2 dozen Krayt weapons a day and have little problem selling 75-125 weapons a day off my vendor. I have one factory set aside, the closest to my house, with the APH resources already in the input hopper, so I make the Krayt APH schematic, throw it in along with the tissues, then move onto the next customer or "talk shop". I always always always take a screenshot too when I get a critical failure on an APH or a weapon assembly as well because some punk kid make a stink that I stole one basic +30 max damage -0.3 speed tissue from him. A weaponsmith STEALING a tissue? C'mon.

I've found going this flat rate to be the best route for several reasons. It shows your customers you're a standup guy (or gal) and willing to spend your personal time on something they have either worked very hard for or spent a fair amount of credits on. Sometimes a customer will tip you extra credits or tip you a tissue (my favorite) so I've been able to assemble a nice collection of unsliced Krayt FWG5's for my other char who uses pistols. There is no way I would sell any of these FWG5's now with the upcoming NERF.

I personally enjoy the challenge of crafting that perfect Krayt Weapon then hearing about a happy slice afterwards. I only label my Krayt Weapons as "Krayt Specials" as well, my name is already on the pistol so I like to keep the weapon description as accurate and discreet as possible.

I can't count the number of Krayt Weapons I've crafted, probably two to three hundred by now. In my "vendor offerings" thread on the Radiant forum I clearly spell out how Krayt Tissues are "crafted" into a weapon so hopefully a forum customer will know what it going on when I run out to a factory and tell them it'll be 5 to 7 minutes for their "tissues to cook". I also wrote up a lengthier thread and link this to my "vendor" thread on Radiant. It goes deeper into the process and even has screenshots of each crafting step.

I'd be happier about the situation if the F#$#$#$@# Amazing Successes MENT something and Moderate Successes were not veiled Major Failures.

I dunno, I still enjoy doing it but if it bugging the hell out of you and taking away from your needed free time (we all do this and go afk when we're really not) I'd say take a break for awhile and when urge to serve returns, charge what you feel your time is worth.

I started out like the original poster, just charging my basic weapon price, but eventually went this way also when I relaized that price was for mass produced weapons, not for me standing around hand crafting each one. This wayI actually get something for making them and I have found most people still think this is more than reasonable as a price for the service. If it's just one or two weapons,I take the cash. If it's more, I offer to take a tissue or two as payment instead of cash - depending on how many weapons are involved.

I too have started with the 20k per charge with the exception that this is a per handler charge for me. After being burned doing mass production for a player on my server I went from my standard gun price to an increased cost. I do not onsider this greed. I have dedicated a considerable amount of time gathering all the best resources and mastering weaponsmith. Not tom mention the character skill points it ate up to be able to make these weapons. I thouroughly enjoy the social aspect but will not allow players to take advantage of it anymore. Having said this, most players have no problem with paying 20k per. They have someone they trust doing the work and that means allot to them and myself as as well. Crit fails, god I hate to tell them that, but we all know it happens. When a player brings me 8-11 tissues wanting 8-11 guns however, at least one should be expected and the player needs to know. That is assuming you will do that many for them as this is the case that burned me; I know make sure I know the destination of the guns before I will even accept these jobs. I have done numerous weapons for entire PAs before and have ZERO issues with this. You just have to watch for the guy that (like was originally mentioned) wants your time and effort only for his personal gain.
