Hi, I used to play on the Ahazi server as a Ranger and had never done anything artisan so I decided to start on the new Chimaera server to become a weaponsmith.

I'm novice now but it seems like I'm getting hardly any XP for crafting anything. The server hasn't even been open a week and there is already load sof people building high damage Fwg5's etc etc so I've fallen way behind.

Wanted to ask a few questions.

1) What is best to grind with? To get the fastest amount of XP?

2) Crafting Macros? Do they exist? Are they allowed or frowned upon?

3) What resourcesa are best to get?

Thanks in advance for your time.

Its been said a thousand times before on here, but get yourself 7-8 post-patch mediums and find a good vein of steel. Get a solar to fuel them (or a fusion if solar % is low). You are gonna need somewhere in the region of 450-500K of steel -or- 350+K of steel AND 100+K of metal.

To grind from novice first take on firearms 1 by making projectile pistol barrels. These take 17 steel and 10 metal and grant 54xp per item (resources *2). When you level up in this, then start making projectile rifle barrels which take 31 steel and 15 metal. Do not be tempted to go further up the firearms tree, but instead go for techniques 1-4. Your weapons are useless even on a new server without experimentation points to increase their stats. When you finish these then progress as you wish (I took all firearms then all melee then explosives last) according to what you feel you want to make for your market niche.

Crafting macros are not frowned upon as they use systems already in game. A good practice macro is a must. I used to use 5 tools and wrote a macro for the whole series of 5 that would openeach tool in turn, select my schematic from the datapad, then practice and close that tool and move to the next one, with pauses in between to allow me to doubleclick the resources. It's tedious and seems like a very high mountain to climb when you've got all those boxes to fill, but you will find that as you move up the boxes you will be burning steel faster than your harvesters can keep up.

As far as affording all this while not selling many guns, I used to grab 2 survey missions at any given opportunity (metal are best but hard to find sometimes) and these paid 3K+ everytime. Make sure to equip a weapon as this doubles the payouts.

SWGcraft.com is a great source of info on what all your new schematics are gonna require. Pay attention to special metals required for certain things especially components. These can turn up once in a while abnd then just disappear. If you see them redeed your harvesters and take all you can. It will be a pointless task to level smithing in 3 weeks then discover you have only the resources to make scout blasters and swords. Pay attention to stats also. If they are bad your resulting weapon will also be bad.

Necessities include reactive gas , high con copper, high SR metals and basically anything with high OQ. You can sell some to keep your funds up if you don't ned all of it. Do a search for macros, mine is too long to type out in here.

I grinded projectile rifle barrels and blaster rifle barrels all the way to Master. I used the awesome macro posted by whymeswg:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=weaponsmith&message.id=17317

I got about 50k weapons xp per hour, some reported higher xp rates, but heck, after hand grinding through half of the weapons tree, 50k xp was amazing. There are other items that will give you more xp per combine, but with the speed of doing projectile rifle barrels, it's hard to beat, even doing it by hand without the help of a macro. You use ONE resource for this item, and only 2 slots to fill, so it's 4 double clicks on one resource stack.

To emphasize the importance of this macro, before using it, the most weapons xp I got in one day was 75k. After starting to use it, I finished up the complete melee and munitions lines in3 days.
