Thread: Observations on Weapon Repair, and a Possible Recommendation...
I have now repaired 275 weapons since the patch giving Master Weaponsmiths added repair abilities. I have kept an informal log of weapon stats and repair results, and wanted to let weaponsmiths know what trends I have been noticing.
- SOE appears to have made a change to repair odds around (or at) the patch deployed last week. Repair success rate ranges have changed since then. I guess they didn't want so many weapons repaired successfully, but the rate ranges have adjusted downwards
- There is a huge difference in repair success rates between Krayt and non-Krayt weaponry. That factor affects success rates more than any other weapon criteria, condition included.
- The order of importance for weapon repair success rates appears to be:
- Krayt enhancements (present or not present)
- Maximum damage (the higher the maximum damage of the weapon, the higher the probability that the repair will fail; this data is of course closely linked to the presence of Krayt tissue)
- Whether the weapon has been sliced or not. I have observed no perceptible difference in repair success rates between damage-sliced and speed-sliced weapons
- Condition (surprisingly, it appears to not be as critical as once thought)
- Use of damaging special moves like Overcharge (harder to track because I'm dependent on testimony from the user)
- I have done repairs on similar weapons using 80%, 95% and 98% kits (highest available to me). There was some difference in success rates between the 80% kit and higher (not surprising), but no perceptible difference between the 95% and 98% kits
- Melee weapons have higher repair success rates than ranged weapons, although my sample size for melee weapons in much smaller. I am trying to determine, but cannot at present, whether weapon complexity (the rating number at time of assembly) is a determinant for repair success rates
- I have started doing repairs standing in front of a crafting station (specifically, my +40.44 personal station). Sample size is much smaller, but there may be an advantage - stay tuned...
- Low condition states on weapons, say 100 or even lower, don't seem to have the impact they either once did or how I perceived they once did. I had a repair session recently where I repaired five Krayt FWGs ranging in condition from 94 to 670/855. You guessed it: the 94 repaired "with minor blemishes only" (the best you can do) and the 670 failed. One of the middle-condition weapons repaired successfully but with a significant condition reduction, so go figure...
- I started wearing a +5 weapon repair skill tape halfway through the data range, and have noticed no perceptible difference in results (not surprising statistically)
Based on these observations, I'm leaning towards makinga recommendation to customers. Before I do, I'd like to float the following out to people for discussion:
- I'm thinking that my recommendation to customers using Krayt-enhanced ranged weaponry is to use the weapon completely, until the condition is, say 100/xxx or whatever. Repair rates for these types of weapons are running just below 50%, and that is based on a rather large sample size (so don't post that your success rates are higher until you've repaired at least 100 weapons like this). That way, if it repairs it appears you have as good a chance of getting most of the original condition back as you do repairing the weapon successfully. The odds for repairing Krayt weaponry of higher condition status doesn't seem to be worth it at present...
I'm really trying to come up with a repair strategy that is best for customers, given the fact that I really don't know how the repair algorithms work. My empirical observations lead me to this, but I'd like to get other weaponsmith's opinions on this approach...
Much obliged, folks ![]()

Don't do that.
There's a bug, well, I can't tell if it's a bug or a "feature". But usually when the condition drops a certain amount (not sure what the special number is, though, but usually under 200), the stats will drop. Every single weapon I have repaired in this condition -- successfully -- had the stats permanently stuck like that.
So, you have a 60-200 FWG5 or whatever, it drops to 200 condition and the stats degrade to 50-180, even with a successful repair, the stats stay like that. I'd avoid letting the condition drop low, especially on Krayt weapons, until this stops happening.
