Hi there,

More beginner questions I'm afraid. I figure that +15 is the best you can get for tools but what is the best + you can get for crafting stations and what is considered alright to use? What are the public ones like in comparison to the private ones? Also, are all factories equal or can you get better and worse ones of these too?

Thanks,

A very confused novice weaponsmith

Factories are all the same.

It appears we can experiment on them but it doesn't actually work.

hehe Devs tend to disagree, but ive been doing this a long time and I agree with you. Crafting stations functionality doesnt mean squat. I produce the same with anegative crafting station as with a 43% one.

Is there an advantage to using private crafting stations over public stations (I mean, apart from being able to build higher-complexity items)?

Also, what specific effect does crafting in a 'Research City' have? Do you have to be a citizen to get that advantage, or can you wander through town and use a crafting station you happen across?

So crafting station quality really doesn't mean anything? I asked an architect last night if he could make 40+ stations and he said he didn't bother with crafting stations anymore cos they were to big a pain to craft to high quality...

This is an interesting question that no one seems to knwo the answer to, even though thte devs have made a statement about it.

I have seen different tests done by a few different people, some have made it seem that it does make a difference, and some have not. The devs have said yes it does make a diference, but they were extremely vague beyond that.

I would say the biggest question is, how much do you hand craft? Stations are supposed to make experimentation results better. If you make everything in a factory, and you don't mind goign through a few tries to get the schem you want, the station will matter less. Even on a horrible station, you will eventually get the results you want.

If, on the other hand, you do a lot of hand crafting, particularly with looted components, then having the best experiment results the first time is extremely important. In this case, wouldn't you want the best just in case?

Besides which, I am also a master architect and make the best stations on Ahazi. Sales of stations are steadier than sales on harvestors or weapons, so obviously a lot of crafters feel that they should have the best.

With regards to the effectiveness on the crafting stations and crafting tools, I read something not long ago (can't remember where, but I am fairly certain it was posted by someone at SOE) that said the effectiveness did NOT affect the experimentation or final quality of the product, but rather the chance of success or failure. So you should have fewer critical failures with a higher quality tool and crafting station.
