Thread: Should I stock up on weapons before publish 7?

Sorry for the newbie question, but with the new experimentation changes publish 7 is bringing should I stock up on T21s and Jawa rifles?
That is what Thunderheart has suggested...

Yes, I do know.
Things change in MMOs and they change all the time. There is a big push to balance all of this stuff and these instances are going to occur. Will these weapons be around forever? No, not forever. It takes a while for things to cycle out as they do in any big "system". And thats what this is; its a big, virtual, social system. Things change and time passes and it works like a bell curve. First, people wont know about it and a few at the front end will benefit while people at the back end of the curve don't know about whats changing. Then the word will spread and the "wave" will flow past and catch on and everyone will talk about it. While thats going on, the clever crafters will take the time to make all those"old weapons"and sell them as time passes. Then most of the "old" weapons will be gone and all players will be on the same playing field, though it will be a longer timeline. This change has to happen though - - its good for crafting and good for the game. its the transition thats tough. Change is always tough and there is a lot of change going on right now.
Sure there is going to be some pain, but don't miss out. You are getting this information now. You folks are involved in the community and you are getting the information. The smart crafters who are involved in this are seeing the winds of change coming and they're out there making product....and you should too. Don't see this as your doom, soo this as your opportunity. You are involved and now you get a chance to take advantage; be those smart crafters and make it happen for yourself.

I never thought it was.
Thanks for the help.

For someone who merely dabbles in a crafting class that haslittle todependence on resource quality and multi-line experimentation and from all accounts is propped up by friends giving him resources and equipment, TH sure is pompous and self-righteous about what's good for the crafting system.
Frankly, it's beginning to unsettle me. He is, for all intents and purposes, ignorant of what it takes to truly craft in SWG. He doesn't understand any of us - from the corporation-esque mega guilds who pull in resources by the millions with multiple accounts on multiple players to the little guys quietly churning out quality stuff on one account, 10 lots, and whatever credits them themselves can muster. None of us. No clue.
To be very blunt, TH's smug attitude towards this change and those it affects upsets more than any of the actual changes do. Read that post up there with his statements about "change is tough", "people don't like change", "it's the change everyone's afraid of, not what the end result will actually be". It's like he thinks we're all idiots who're upset because someone is moving our cheese (to steal a phrase from corporate America) and not because we understand the ins and outs of the system on both sides and don't like where we're headed in the long term.
To sum up, it's not the changes themselves that would make me cancel, it's the attitude we're given when we express informed concern over this that would drive me away.

it's the attitude
I've never heard anyone use the word, attitude, in a compliment. Have you?
I agree completely with DirthNader. There can be no solution ontop of a broken foundation. It'll always wobble. The fundamentals of this game are in disaccord. They are fixing and introducing meaningless limited content, to be abused by the abusers. Who else can enjoy the changes in Pub6, but exploiters. They can't even ban the right people.
Thunderfart quotes belong "In the Toilet". Or better yet on the Devslacker.

Perhaps there is more going on here than we realize. Obviously the handful of people on each server that have 12 experimentation points are going to be in extreme demand for weapon crafting. These people are members of guilds more often than not. The average weaponsmith with 10 experimentation points will be an afterthought to the customer base, and maintaining this profession will be more difficultleading tothe overall number of people in these classes will reduce. So what I see is a reduction of weaponsmiths overall, which in turn reduces the amount of people storing items such as resources and weapon components. Next, I think this will drive people into large guilds and cities to have access to the elite weaponsmiths. This will have the effect of condensing populations to certain areas, such as the Bestine Anchorhead Megalopolis. And then take into account this will be occurring with all crafting classes. I personally dont think the dev's are as stupid as people accuse them of being. I think the fact that they dont converse with the community is a sign of that. I would imagine that this part of a long term 'fix' that they are doing, its just being effected ina bit of a authoritorian way. Imagine this, with fewer crafters you have less demand on system resources, fewer CSR tickets reducing in troubleshooting support, and overall a more compliant customer base, with fewer crafters and more combatants. I see this as us being forced into there mold, now that they are attempting to maximize profit from this game. At least that is my highly cinical view based on current corporate america. Bilch us for all we are worth!
