I am almost done mastering for my last holo afterwhich I am gonna go WS/Smug. I know some WS do either ranged or melee..I am planning onbuilding all weapons. I would like any advice on a few things...
1.For profitability, is it better to harvest your own resources or try to find someone to collect them for you at like 3cpu?
2. If Harvesting on my own...how many harvestors should I get and which ones?
3. How many factories would be sufficient?
4. Does mastering artisan help WS out or is getting engineering enough?
5. How should I figure prices...do I just charge based the amount for resources nede to make the weapon or do I figure in
any factory/harvestor maintenance costs?
6. Anything that I needto know to make things go a little smoother..thingsyou learned from experience?
Thanks

1. Yes it is. If you harvest the resources yourself your profit marging will be better. You can also have very competitive prices compared to those who buy the resources. However, without buying some of the materials you will never (ok well maybe in 6 months) get to the quality level of other smiths.
2. 20. 2 Fusions, 5 chemical, 13 mineral. All with max ber.
3. If you will be doing munitions, melee and ranged then 10 factories will keep you going. That way you wont have to wait for days for the components to get done.
4. Well you can do better powerups. As lot of people think that weaponsmiths make them it would save you the trouble of informing every customer that your WS-only powerups suck.
5. As long as you are making profit you are set. Rather keep a stock of slightly overpriced weapons than sell them with a loss. You can balance this out by pricing some of the weapons a bit higher. ie. munitions and rocket launchers.
6. By following the advice on 2 and 3 you will notice that your roughly 22 lots short on your goal. Lot trade or alt account. There is no such thing as a part time weaponsmith. Help from PA friends is a big plus. Eighter that or limit your production line like 85% of the weaponsmiths out there.
Keep your PR as a high priority. Customers who feel welcomed and who think they are getting an unusual amounth of attention will forgive alot when it comes to stats and price.
Shooting star twice as bright will.. well quit SWG in frustration. Have fun!
Remember its about having fun, you are paying for the game so try to make the best out of it.

1. You will save a virtual mountain of credits by harvesting yourself.
2. How many lots will you have available? The best investment I ever made was for 13 BER heavies...each type, gas/chem/mineral for all the lots I had to use.
3. Depends on your volume of sales. And at times you might need more, at other times less. I started with 2, I have used as many as 14 at one time, but I find that in general 4 or so work pretty good...you might need mroe or less depednign on how busy your shop is.
4. The only thing I use artisan for is control units ...which is a comp for some of the weapons...but you could find a master artisan to make those for you or atleast the schematic.
5. Pricing is subjective...resources...rare resources...overall pain in the ass to make...popularity of that specific item...and it varies from server to server...my advice is to check out a few notable smith's shops...crafters that have been around for a while...there is gernerally reason why they charge what they do...
6. The best advice that I can give is this:
Do not get too hung up on what other people are doing. Someone will always have soemthing with better stats than yours, or priced better. Don't stress out about it...it is going to happen. Just make things the best you can with what you have, charge what you are comfortable with, and don't be afraid to use the ban list when people are dicks. Yes you are trying to make a living and you want the guy to part with thier credits...that does nto mean you are a doormat. Learn when to say no, I am busy right now perhaps later or tomorrow, I do not make those, and sorry but I am not smithing today.
Goodluck to you, I hope you enjoy as much as I do.
