The current system should be dropped, and a new system implemented. A system more like that of BE/CH. The weapon WS'es make should be given a CL just a pets have, and WS should have more control over what damage types, and AR's the different weapons have.
This would mean that WS'es would make mutch more varied weapons, and the "monopoly" that SOE do not like would be broken.
To better show what I mean I have made up an example, with totally fictive numbers and parts.
The current sup-components should be split in to several sup components. For example, instead of a E11 rifle taking a Blaster-rifle Barrel, it would take 4 crystal-lenses, a T21 might take 6.
These lenses could be one of several types.
Focusing Lens: (Gallinorian Rainbow Gem Crystalline Gemstone)
+1 AR for the weapon. (set standard cant change)
Experimentation on a speed: plenty from a start of +3.0 down to say +1.0.
Experimentation on CL: plenty from a start of +10 down to +5.
Experimentation on Durbility: as now.
Precision Lens: (Ryll Amorphous Gemstone)
Experimentation on ideal range: Form +0 up to +15
Experimentation on CL: plenty from a start of +10 down to +1.
Experimentation on Durbility: as now.
Empowering Lens: (crystalline gemstone)
Experimentation on Min damage: From +0 up to +15
Experimentation on CL: plenty from a start of +10 down to +1.
Experimentation on Durbility: as now.
(and more lenses for all the other stats like point-blank range, max range, mad damage, Wound...)
Instead of a optional scope the DLT20 a could have 1 or 2 extra optional "precision lenses"... the power handle could exist in a few types for different damage types with and so on.
Weapon smiths would be able to custom tailor weapons for any possible needs, but that would also mean they could not possible stock every single type, and thus create loads of niches for new weapon smiths to get a beachhead in the market.
The different graphical modes that exist now would still be the one that was chosen in the finale combine, but they would take different numbers of the different parts.

Not bad idea, but Damb this profession already gives me a headache! it might take forever to put together a custom gun then like a day of starin at the stupid crafting window tryin to figure out wat Resources, and how many components it will take to get the desired results. I say if u wana get that complicated with things just start building guns IN Real Life. I think that is wat is ruining this game for me is it is to much thought involved sometimes I JUST WANA PLAY A GAME HUH BOYS?
