Thread: noob question about species and WS
I don't really know much about species, or if it influences such things, but the only species-related tidbit I do know is that only Wookies can craft Bowcasters.
As to the grind, I rose through the ranks before the CU and decided to go about WS this way:
As a low level WS, I would give free low-level weapons to people who seemed to need them, offering them my services and basically just giving them weapons since all I wanted was the XP. This, however, turned out to my advantage because those same people I was cordial to at their low level (without credits either) were now Elites and wanted weapons from me for being so nice to them. It's a good method if you want to be a low level WS without just respecing into it.

Natural assembly bonuses. not necessary but if your making a WS toon, why not?
Ah, ok. Didn't know about that. Though since failure on assembly no longer is an issue it doesn't matter anymore, so the "why not" would be "cause Mon Calamari are ugly", but that's a matter of personal taste

whilst your right faliures are removed/rare? more assembly mods mean more "amazing successes" on assembly

True, but there's no difference between "Amazing Success" and "Great Success" on assembly. You still start out at the same percentages in all experimentation-branches, and you still need the same amount of points to max out a branch.

It probably does increase the chance of getting a "Critical Success" on assembly though, but they're so rare most people haven't even heard of them.
Mon Cal gets a build in assembly bonus, yes, but it doesnt really make them better than other WS, given the fact there is so much out there to boost your assembly. Foods, Research citys, skill tapes, FS skills, Entertainer buffs. I would rate the necessity of being Mon Cal a big fat 1.
No other professions get any kind of weapon smith bonus, save for Wookies. Wookie is probably the most worth while profession for a weapon smith just because of the bowcaster crafting ability. Extremely rare weapon, so if you can make them, you have a instant niche in the market. If I were to start a new character I would probably go with Wookie for this reason. HOWEVER, if you do this you will have a harder time getting to 12 points due to the restrictions to wookies for clothing. Many of the looted items will not be equipable by wookies, not to mention they cant wear as many pieces of clothing as compared to say humans.
