We're all familiar with this piece of work. The Blacksun Executioner's Hack. A beautiful weapon that just does not have a place in this game, simply because it is too expensive for its damage potential when compared to other weapons on the market.
I fear that pretty much every weapon is going to wind up in the same boat post-CU. Look at geo pistols, dxr rifles, scythes, jawa ion rifles, gaffi sticks, etc. Currently, there is a time and a place for eachof these weapons, and their acklayed or krayted versions can be good sellers. Now, at the very best, these will be GRIND quality weapons on par withevery othermid-range-certed weaponout there.
Lets talk DE-10s now. If I remember correctly, this gun is certed at master pistoleer, along with the republic blaster. Both do the same damage, but the DE-10 costs about 1000 times as much to build. The customer then gets the choice of buying a 5k gun or a 1.5mil gun, both of which do the exact same damage.
The only reason to buy loot-schematic based weaponspost-CU will be for show.

I figure the CURB will be the exact opposite. As it is today, most weapons are not used. All proffessions have one or two weapons that they use all the time, leaving lots of cool models gathering dust.
As I've come to understand, the CURB will make more versions of weapons viable for use.

more viable for a grinder, not for a master. Masters will (possibly) have 2 weapons they can use, one energy and one kinetic, each capped on damage.

Not out of business, but the way things look now, the loot weapons market is going to go right straight to sh1t. No ones going to buy that dagnasty DE-10 when a DL44 XT will do just as well. Theres still going to be a market for weapons (obviously) but it wont be nearly as profitable.

How is this any different than from now? DE-10's, Hacks, NSEL's, are all just for show. The only real looted schematics that are used are the Scythe and DXR-6 rifle.

that's not entirely true. my 520 max damage de-10 pistol was well worth the 4 million credits i spent it on. it blew away every other pistol i've ever used, and in the hands of a Master Pistoleer x-x-4-x BH that gun is absolutly brutal. slap that thing in an ADK, and i now never use any other pistol unless something has 100% energy resist.

Although this is true for quite a few weapons (I am VERY regretful for making an acklay gaderiffi on Valcyn now
), remember...theres still quite a few loot schematics that are fairly high level (2 master lvl off the top of my head, mostly in tier 3 and tier 4). Since theres now caps on damage, its quite possibly we may be able to see lower tier stuff get excellent slices and come close to a higher tier weapon.
Although...thats not, in my opinion, the best of ways to get folks to use lower tier weaponry - would've been much better if we still had the 3 damage modes, where a geo carbine (ter 3) would be as useful as an elite carbine (ter 5). Maybe the upcoming slicing revamp (with the smuggler) is more comptatible with the new CU system though? Where it can make the lower tier stuff more useful than they currently are?

Each weapon should have three classes. Novice, Intermediate and Master. Novice weapons would be crafted with no componets and be a base weapon, Intermediate would be crafted with base componets and Master crafted with advanced componets. Each weapon would have three different schematics. This would add diversity and allow players the option to actually use all the weapons. You could still have loot schematics certed at Master for the people who like the rarer weapon types, just make them actually useful.

Yet people still come and have me make them NSEL's and Hacks knowing that they will be subpar but want the speciality of the weapon. Also I heard that NSEL's are going to be very sought after when the CU does come.

It is the same thing with faction armor. All armor will have same state, but faction armor are more costly to get since you need the FP.
Still, I m convince people will still go for it, because they are fan, The De10 is way cooler than the rep blaster. With the ADK, you can buy one and get the amortissement for it without fear.
It will avoid unbalancing througth rare things and commun things. It is still content for those who want to get it. (RIS any one ? when you can buy a stun compo ? )
I think it is good design.
