Hmm sorry to hear about your Droid Engineering career.....

I was once a master of Armorsmith and Weaponsmith, so I hope I can help you in your decision.

I suppose the decision should be based on your financial status. If you are already quite wealthy, then you can take up Armorsmith (You won't be able to sell much armor until you hit Master Armorsmith, because people want insanely high Effectiveness ratings and low encumbrances.....) If you are in need of cash, I would take up weaponsmithing (after all almost everyoneuses weapons...and not everyone uses armor) plus you can sell decent weapons for decent prices on the bazzaars....

I probably had the most fun with Armorsmith....working my way up to master took a long time, but I felt a great sense of accomplishment that I was able to craft the coveted COMPOSITE ARMOR

But which ever profession you choose be prepared for a long grinding period.....(of course you're used to that if you've been a Droid Engineer!

Good luck on what ever you choose.

Hey folks.

I'm at Engineering 4 right now, trying to decide between armor and weaponsmithing as my crafting profession. I'd like to know your opinionson Weaponsmithing, how you think it compares to armorsmithing (especially if youve been both), how much fun you have with it.

I spent the first two months after release as a droid engineer... you can guess how that turned out. After a three month sabbatical, I'm back, and want to craft something people will actually buy. Mostly I want a profession that's fun to work through and remains fun at master.

Your thoughts?

I stuck with weaponsmith, but I think armor is more fun. I would be both, but I already have architect and artisan mastered.

I haven't tried Armorsmithing. I think the biggest difference may be the player customizations. I noticed a lot of armorsmiths spend their time working on custom orders.

As a weaponsmith this is not such a big part of your time. Most custom orders are done with drop components that the customer has obtained. So we spend lots of time working on resources and factories, then stocking the vendors.

Personal preference there I guess.

Thanks everybody, great info.

Now, to decide on one or the other... hehe. I've got the 21,000 GCXP sitting there, just itching to be spent....

Weaponsmithing has vast competitors, if you don't make the most powerfull weapons and have them sliced you will get conversations like this.

"Can you make Krayte weapons?"

"Aye if you supplie the Krayte."

"Oh, OK nevermind."

I make what I like to call purest weapons. I try and make the higest performance weapons I can, therefore if the owner decides to slice my products they will see a even larger increase in stats.

I am one of the few independant smithers on my server (No guild backing) I make decent money allowing me to maintain my houses and harvesters. Being a MWC also allowed me to gain MDE. Make a mental note to your self, in the current DE state you will not be able to support your self with DE alone.

I have a few questions as well, as someone who is considering only dabbling in Weaponsmithing.

Since I dont want to get Master, and only have an interest in producing firearms, it seems to me that I only need Firearms Crafting and Crafting Techniques in the weaponsmith tree to be where I want...is that correct?

Secondly, since the grind through even those two will be expensive, is there any money to be made for Weaponsmithers who aren't Masters?

Some but much much less. Your weapons will ALWAY be sub-par when compared with the "standard" master weaponsmiths weapons. This is typically not a profession that is very friendly to dabblers because most people want the best weapon they can get. That said you will be able to sell some weapons on the bazaar for low prices so you will still make some money. So, yes there is SOME money to be made as a non-master. Oh, and expect to constantly be asked for weapons you can't make if you use your weaponsmith title.

I'm both a master armorsmith and weaponsmith. Yes, you have to have a bit of a masochistic streak to choose that path.

I've been an armorsmith from the start. It was what I wanted to do when the game launched and I have fun with it. I would say that armorsmithing is much more involved from a customization aspect as everyone has their own way they want encumbrance, layers, resistance, and color. So, it can be pretty trying at times when you have a number of people that want very different things because it affects your subassemblies. One thing with armorsmithing is that all the qualities you need for various materials stay pretty consistent...which brings us to weaponsmithing.

I only became a master weaponsmith a few weeks ago as I was pondering what to do with my ever fluctuating pool of remaining skill points. I like making the weapons, but after your initial build with the best materials you have available, it is basically all schematic. The most important experimentation for weapons is damage and speed. This is experimented in the same bar, so you can max your weapon out and there really isn't much flexibility with it.

Materials for armorsmithing are easier to follow because you have the same set of attributes to look for. However, you do need organics such as hide and bone that you need to hunt down rather than just plant a harvester on. Weaponsmithing materials have many different attributes necessary. Some parts call on Conductivity and Shock Resist, some call on just Unit toughness, others call on Overall Quality and Conductivity, etc. Weaponsmith materials can be found in the ground and you don't need to hunt animals for anything that I am aware of. So, extracting the materials is easier for a weaponsmith, but tracking them is harder for a weaponsmith.

If some wiring is loose in your head, you can be both!
