Hi all!

Some time ago I remember reading a thread about how experimentation on advanced barrels dont give much if any benefit to the created weapon and that you are better of just making the regular blaster barrels for a firearm.

Is this still the case? I recently became a master weaponsmith and have a good supply of materials for the advanced power handlers, but I fluffed off on the resourses for the advanced blaster barrels because of that piece of info from about a month back.

I did some board searching and couldnt find any info out there thats recent about the advanced barrels

Advanced Blaster Barrels are much better than the non-adv versions. It's the Adv. Rifle Barrels which are slower with only a few points difference in damage.

Yeah....I'm gonna have to go ahead and...disagree with you on that...

Adv. blaster pistol barrels as well as blaster rifle barrels require rhodium steel, a resource which is gating these components and making them not worth using (a couple points extra damage, but at a significant speed cost). For guns calling for blaster barrels of either type, use the regular ones, unless specifically requested otherwise.

Adv. projectile barrels, on the other hand, work just fine. They are far better than their regular counterparts assuming you have decent materials for them.

I believe this is galaxy specific. On Wanderhome I'm using a Rhodium Steel with a OQ of 937. I don't remember what the CN was but the total is about 1000. This makes the Adv Pistol Barrel much better than it's non-adv cousin.

Btw, for some reason the benefits do not apply to the Adv Rifle Barrel which leads me to believe that it's a gated schematic.

Could you let me know what kind of results you're seeing? I just went on to verify, and my regulars still came out better.

Blaster Pistol Barrel - +9/+9 -.92

Adv. Blaster Pistol Barrel - +15/+15-.72

Now, I worked out the DPS just to make sure, using the SR Combat Pistol, on which the speed difference would have the least effect (because it's the slowest pistol). Results for my pistol, showed that using the regular barrel gave a DPS of 80.69, and the advanced gave 79.35. Not much difference, but the regular was definately better. Also, this was for the pistol best suited for the advanced component, all others (i.e. guns that are actually used like scout, DX2, RB...) would be even better as compared to their advanced counterparts. Are you seeing something drastically different?
