Thread: BPH Experimentation

The BPH (Blaster Power Handler) schematic lists experimentation as:
Max Damage .66cd+.33oq (cd=ConDuctivity, oq=Overall Quality)
Min Damage .50cd+.50oq

Neither of them is right. I discovered this when upgrading coppers and getting worse results. I was puzzled by this, but shortly after I noticed the final resource for ABPH spawned and I forgot about it for a few weeks. It had been nagging me not knowing so I finally decided to do some testing.

I made BPH with 14 different coppers, keeping the other resources the same and recorded all the results. The experimentation listed on the schematic was obviously wrong, but what was right? Could it be .66cd+.33sr like the Barrels? No, that didn't work. Could Malleability work into the equation some how? .33cd+.16oq+.50ma, .44cd+.22oq+.33ma, .50cd+.25oq+.25ma all didn't work.

After adjusting just the cd+oq % I finally found .90cd+.10oq did work. It is easier to prove what doesn't work than what does. .90cd+.10oq is a possible correct answer, but I would need to test a lot more than 14 coppers to be sure.

Here is the link to the spreadsheet I used:

Would 90 CD / 10 OQ be for all experimentation or just for the copper?

At swgcraft.com reports that all experimentation is supposed to be 66 CD / 33 OQ, except for Minimum Damage which is supposed to be 50 CD / 50 OQ.

I've also heard that the only important value for Low Grade Ore is its OQ?

Had I more (diverse) resources this would be quite interesting to keep on experimenting on, hope someone else does.

Could be right, I just got some better Ostrine. about 230 oq better, itimproved the speed.01 onthe ABPH. Though the ore requirement is pretty small, only 5 units.

This is true as far as I can tell. It's difficult to say conclusively because Ore is such a small portion of the total resource count but I believe that any missing stats on a resource are ignored.

WillPower's post has started me wondering what other schematics are listed incorrectly. Any one know any?

Update:

I finally figured out how this works. The schematic is not bugged. It is working as it should be. I just didn't understand it completely.

Missing facts:
1. If resource doesn't have a stat like conductivity, it is ignored, not counted as 0.
2. The Conductivity of all the resources used is averaged before the .66 is applied.

So if experimentation includes both cd (conductivity) and oq (overall quality), but only the metals have cd, the cd of those metals will have more effect and their oq will have less effect on the result.

BPH schematic says .66cd .33oq
BPH take 26 resources, but only the 8 metal have any cd.

The value of the metals oq gets watered down by the other resources, but the cd is taken at full value.

cd = .66(8/8)=.66
oq = .33(8/26)=.1015

Now getting them to total 100% again at the same ratio:

max dam cd = .66/(.1015+.66)=.87
max dam oq = .1015/(.1015+.66)=.13

BPH Max damage of .87cd .13oq worked across all my coppers.

min dam oq = .50(8/26)=.1538, .1538/(.1538+.5)= .24
min dam cd = .50/(.1538+.50)= .76

BPH Min dam of .76cd .24oq also worked across all my coppers.

So did finally understanding this allow me to improve my weapons? Nope. In my case it didn't make any difference. It's for schematics where a resource is missing a stat and the quantity required is large enough to affect the outcome. It has the biggest affect on BPH but I already figured out which copper was better for those and that is what spurred this analysis. Next would be ABPH (Advanced Blaster Power Handle), but my server hasn't spawned enough Diatiums to pick and choose and our Phrik with the best OQ also has the best CD. It only adds 1 or 2% cd to the barrels, which wasn't enough to change. The closest I got to changing anything was Heavy Particle Beam Cannon where the cd increases by 7%, which made 2 other Irons almost catch up to what I was using.

I have had enough of this for today. Anyone else feel like coming up with a list of affected schematics and what the effective experimentation percentages are?

Blaster Power Handler: max.87cd .13oq, min .76cd .24oq
Advanced Blaster Power Handler: .87cd .13oq
Heavy Particle Beam Cannon: .57cd .43oq

etc.

This is really interesting data, thanks. I always thought it was counted as 0 if it didn't have a conductivity stat.
