I finally decided to drop my last few skill points into the fine art of weaponsmithing in hopes to make some decent bowcasters. I was able to get 0-1-0-1 (and artisan 4-0-0-1) so that I could make all the components necessary. The thing that I found (surprise, surprise) is that my bowcasters are terrible... So I was wanting some feedback from you all on what to do to better myself. Here's what I have gather in-game from other weaponsmiths:
1 - Revamp my weaponsmith skills to 0-0-0-3 (artisan 4-0-0-0) to get better assembly and experimentation. I wouldn't be able to make one of the bowcaster components, but I shouldn't have a problem with finding another weaponsmith to purchase it from...
2 - Get component enhancements (i.e. Krayt Tissues, Spider Fangs, and Gorax Bone Shards) to increase the performance of the bowcasters.
3 - Invest in SEAs and skill enhancing food (I forget the name of the food but there is supposed to be one that helps assembly) prior to building the bowcasters or the components.
What do you all think?

All weapons worth their salt are made by at least a 10 pt WS. I share your love of crafting weapons for yourself, but the way to do it is to bite the bullet and go master. I ended up opening a second account so I can master WS with one, then combat with the other. They form a sybionic relationship. My WS makes the weapons, my fighter gets the loot to put into the weapons. Only drawback is the double monthly fee.

Thanks for the input, it's greatly appreciated.
The unfortunate thing is that I can't really afford another account so I guess my next option would be to unlock jedi and use the secondary alt. as a weaponsmith...

I would suggest you start looking and stockpiling resources now. I mean if Weaponsmith is what you really want to do, start collecting the good stuff now. If you wait till after you master weaponsmith, it could be a very long time before you get to make anything worth selling.

Well my advice
1,is get the extra couple of points in experimentation.. even a couple boxes will work..
2, Then have a 12 piont master make you the advanced parts..
3, hen make a factory run id go with 50-100 then find a smuggler to slice all of um..
4, keep the best ones and destory the rest or what ever ya want to do with um..
5, you should beable to get a pretty nice bow caster following those steps
If you where on chimaera is make ya a sweet one : )

1. Crafting is mainly about resources. So you will need the best resources for good results.
2. For building your bowcasters you should try getting to 0104 at least (maybe only temporary for creating some schematics), if you don't have the points to getting to master.
3. Enhancers like High powered feeders or Krayt tissues add a nice bonus to your weapons.
4. Get yourself a good crafting station and tool
5. SEAs would help a lot. At 0004 with only 5 points you get 8 exp points and that should produce fairly good weapons.
5. Bowcasters are really cool weapons

I went through this same thought process at the beginning of the game.
Got 0-0-0-4 WS, had a master make sub-components, and the bowcaster was beginning to shape up.
Now that I have more krayt, I plan to make a bowcaster with a special adv barrel, a gorax shard (or a good spider), the krayt, and advanced scope. A nice 997 OQ Doonium just spawned this week during our repeat 'Iron Bug' period.
At least I'll be able to use it without any Novice Marksman.

Well...you do have one more option. Find a single combat profession that you want to be....let's say rifleman. (Works with your bowcasters) You can be both master WS and Master Rifleman, with 66 additional skill points. You can use those skill points towards some survey skills, some medic skills, and perhaps a littlemerchant skills. You willhave a nice all-around character. You can fight, you can craft, you can heal, you can sale your goods. True you won't dominate PvP, but you can have fun doing your thing, you can still be a useful part of a hunting group, and most importanatly....make your own bowcasters, which IMO will becomemuch better weapons after CU.

unfortunatly to really make good bowcasters you will need master. getting the krayt/spider fang loot will help and if you can do get some there is nothing quite like a bowcaster with higher dmg then a t21.

Krayt tissues and Gorax bone shards...very nice combo, get's great dmg and the speed is much lower that normal or even spider fangs.
