Depends on what your resources/money stash look like. If you go with just the projectile pistol/rifles barrels then you'll need steel. It will take you longer but if you go the other ways listed in the FAQ you'll need a lot more different types of resources. That's basically the short answer to your question.

i spent about 1 million on resources for WS grinding, i reccommend taking up a prof like swordsman first, so you can get the £££ rolling in, because collecting the resources yourself will take weeks.

you need between 500k-600k of steel to do it like i did, just grinding barrels.

Master Weapon Smithie + Master Swordsman.
