Thread: Question For Weaponsmiths from a non-weaponsmith

I have had several discussions over the past couple of months with regards to what is better. High Damage or Low Speed.

From what I can tell. A person with ZERO Skill tapes modifing thier weapon speed the average weapon to hit a speed cap needs to be somewhere in the range of 2.00 - 2.30 (a speed stacker melee who goes TK or Fencing for thier primary weapon will have a speed modifier dropping hte weapon speed by 1.3 seconds)

So what I can tell is the SWEET spot on speed to maximize DPS (after all higher DPS means things die faster) is 2.00 - 2.30 and someone who takes a speed stacking template (IE MTK, Swords 0400, Pike4000, MF) and has +25 in skill tapes for speed can use a weapon as high as 2.55 roughly speed and hit the 1 second minimum delay.

How many of you are taking this into account when you make your weapons? I mean The goal for the WS and the person using said weapon is to get as much damage out as possible.

Granted specials are no longer affected by weapon speed. But I know from personal experience that I use very few specials as it is not needed and I can solo melee mobs 2-4 levels above me as a melee myself.

I was just curious. If you like I can provide equations that take into account elemental damage etc to find dps and even how to reverse dps to find spd.

Personally I exp components mostly inSAC with 1 or 2 in speed. Then on the final assembly I look at where I am. I ussually go all damage, but if the speed is high I throw a point or so there. I keep them around 2.4-2.7 + / -. Most people now look at SAC and damage...some DPS. I am a master smuggler so I will also give a basic speed slice. This has worked on the high end weapons, i.e. CL 54 and some CL 40 stuff. Just the CL certification implies that the buyer will have some speed mods, therefore be closer to the speed cap and looking more for SAC and damage stats.

For the lower level stuff I worry less about SAC and more about speed because at that level they wont have the speed mods others do.

It is late and I am pretty tired. I hope this helps. Actually I just hope you are able to understand what I wrote

Well from what I have seen looking and adding up numbers about the only ones close to being at speed cap on a 2.0-2.3 weapon without skill tapes are pistoleers, fencers, and TKs.

I know my MPikeman even with +25 polearm speed wouldn't be speed capped but the way the skills can be stacked now you can get +50 from skill tapes. General speed and profession specific speed. Do you think this is what most people are shooting for personally?

It does not matter how fast your weapon is or how much damage it does if you have no action after the first few shots. I personly get the SAC down nice and low on my wepaons preferably maxed then i go dmg, then speed. This IMO makes the best qualitly weapon for my customers use, and the best quality for use in my combat toons. I did extensive personel testing on several variants of the same weapon to find which worked best and this is what i have found gets my customers the most bang for their buck.

How high is your SAC if your running out of action? I never run out of action and I don't use buffs all that often. My weapons SAC is 98. weapon speed (modified) is 1.43.

Even fighting mobs 6 levels above me I don't run out of action.

My WS friends and I both agree that SAC is most important. Even with capped SAC and unexperimented speed you're going to run out of action. The ideal weapon has capped damage and SAC and then speed slice it (12%). I know this frommuch experience slicing in this new era.
