Thread: Some Trials of the New Experimentation System
Well with the new experimentation system being on the Live servers for a day I decided to try the Devs offer to give it a test run and see what I think of it. For this I pick roughly 2 things that I deal with on a roughly daily basis and a general range weapon to see what was the overall affect. For these experiments I used the Adv. Blaster Rifle Barrel, Adv. Vibro Blade Unit, and the DL44 pistol. I have these particular items already done up before the patch with schematics and had enough material to run the new post patch trials.
Trial #1 - DL44 Pistol
Materials:
- Blaster Power Handler (Pre-Patch from factory)
Dmg: 9/18 Speed: -0.47
- Blaster Pistol Barrel (Pre-Patch from factory)
Dmg: 9/9 Speed: -0.9 Woud: 4 Range: 0/0/2
- Scope (Pre-Patch from factory)
Wound: 3 Range: 0/10 Special Move Cost: 1/1/1
- Omnikoikiic (Polysteel Copper)
CR: 699 CD: 988 DR: 651 HR: 604 M: 974 OQ: 673 SR: 729 UT: 765
DL44 Pistol (Pre-Patch factory):
Cond: 921/921
Speed: 1.9
Type: Energy
Min Dam: 42
Max Dam: 135
Wound: 16.2%

Mx Rng: -80@64m
HAM: 12/32/12
DL44 Pistol (Post-Patch Test #1):
Cond: 921/921
Speed: 2.0
Type: Energy
Min Dam: 42
Max Dam: 134
Wound: 16.1%
PB Rng: -10@0m

Mx Rng: -80@64m
HAM: 13/32/13
DL44 Pistol (Post-Patch Test #2):
Cond: 921/921
Speed: 2.0
Type: Energy
Min Dam: 42
Max Dam: 135
Wound: 16.1%
PB Rng: -10@0m
Id Rng: +34@8m
Mx Rng: -80@64m
HAM: 13/32/13
As you can see not too much variation between them. It was odd between Test #1 and #2 in that all points were great success but Test #1 ended with 80% in the damage bar where as Test #2 ended with 81%. From the pre-patch I was able to get the damage bar maxed and had a point to spare on the HAM. The main requirements for a DL44 pistol is cond. 50%/overall quality 50% any metal, therefore it does not suffer from the need for materials that have certain stats capped, this is where the next two trials come in.
Trial #2 - Adv. Vibro Blade Unit
Materials:
- Carbaniafaism (Platinite Copper)
CR: 635 CD: 891 DR: 641 HR: 559 M: 899 OQ: 731 SR: 731 UT: 679

- Asebi (Solid Class 3 Petro Fuel)
DR: 261 PE: 603 OQ: 98
Adv. VBU (Pre-Patch factory):
Min Dam: 24
Max Dam: 36
Speed: -0.33
Wound: 11
Rng. Mod. 7/7/7
Spe. HAM Cost: 6/6/6
Adv. VBU (Post-Patch Test #1):
Min Dam: 22
Max Dam: 34
Speed: -0.30
Wound: 11
Rng. Mod. 3/3/3
Spe. HAM Cost: 8/8/8
Adv. VBU (Post-Patch Test #2):
Min Dam: 22
Max Dam: 33
Speed: -0.31
Wound: 11
Rng. Mod. 3/3/3
Spe. HAM Cost: 8/8/8
In this trial we have an item that requires very specific material to be constructed, the required stat needed for an Adv. Vibro Blade unit is UT 100%. It is also a known fact that one of the main required resource has a capped stat in the area of UT, that being Desh Copper and is the most required material needed to construct the Adv. VBU needing 25 units in fact. To this date and as far as I know Desh Copper has never had Unit Toughness break over the 400 mark. The same goes for the Platinite Copper where its Unit Toughness hasn't seemed to break the 800 mark yet. Also to note the same thing that happen with the DL44 Pistol has happened here. Both Test #1 and Test #2 had their damage bar maxed to 44% yet again we see some slight shift in the dmg and speed numbers.
Trial #3 - Adv. Blaster Rifle Barrel
Materials:
- Quadetaoli (Ryll Amph. Gems)
ER: 386 CR:545 DR: 485 HR: 799 M: 351 OQ: 803 SR: 532 UT: 566
- Trihamohase (Polysteel Copper)
CR: 739 CD: 942 DR: 603 HR: 598 M: 963 OQ: 928 SR: 783 UT: 796
- Erawine (Duralloy Steel)
CR: 732 CD: 589 DR: 966 HR: 963 M: 367 OQ: 901 SR: 998 UT: 932
- Seesapine (Duranium Steel)
CR: 384 CD: 395 DR: 800 HR: 841 M: 207 OQ: 138 SR: 814 UT: 721
- Areka (Rhodium Steel)
CR: 52 CD: 81 DR: 547 HR: 626 M: 40 OQ: 381 SR: 506 UT: 445
Adv. BRB (Pre-Patch factory):
Min Dam: 11
Max Dam: 11
Speed: -0.32
Wound: 4
Rng. Mod. 0/0/15
Adv. BRB (Post-Patch Test #1):
Min Dam: 10
Max Dam: 10
Speed: -0.30
Wound: 4
Rng. Mod. 0/0/4
Adv. BRB (Post-Patch Test #2):
Min Dam: 10
Max Dam: 10
Speed: -0.30
Wound: 4
Rng. Mod. 0/0/4
Here we see even a more drastic result of the requirement of capped materials and its affect with the new expeirmentation system. In the pre-patch the left over experimentation points allowed me to add more to the range of the Adv. BRB. Adding to the range made the Adv. BRB a desireable componet when compared to a regular BRB. The loss of those points now makes the adv. BRB an overall waste of time and effort in my opinion just for the addition of 1-2 more damage points.
Is the new system good or bad? Well from the veiwpoint of the one line experimentation there is a tiny amount of reduce in the overall make-up of the item, but there is a mitigating factor involved. As I've stated in other posts if the item in particular requires capped resources it seems to cause a downward spiral affect on the item as a whole. While I only did capped resource experiments on componets, it will have an adverse affect on most of the high complexity items, where as they themselves require resources that either a.) have horrbile stats to begin with the required stat e.g. iron and or steel material need for items that require conductivity, or b.) have hard caps in the stat e.g. Desh Copper with UT capped at under 400.
At this point I'll let you check over what I've done and let you form some opinions.

This is exactly what I was seeing during my experiments on the Test Center. Especially when a item called for using anamed resource it seemed that those itemstook the biggest hit.
This was going to hit a 10 point smith very hard, a 12 point smith still would have seen a pinch. Even with 12 points people would have used up most of those (9-10) just getting the first line to its max, so instead of having 4-5 points left over for the other lines you would have had only 2-3 points left over. So I did not see this as an improvement, and this is thereason why I was against these changes to the crafting system.
