Thread: Disgruntled Weaponsmiths Thread

As weaponsmiths, our most precious commodity is our time.

  • It takes time to gather the dozens of resources it takes to make our weapons.

  • It takes time to set up and wait on factory runs

  • It takes time to keep vendors stocked.

  • It takes time to deal with inane questions from lazy players who don't care to educate themselves about what makes a weapon good, but only want the most "l33t" weapon they can find "dood, I have these lightweight vibro motors, I want .5 speed, 700 mx dmg vibro knuckles plz. I'll give you 5k if you can deliver them to Yavin 4!".

  • It takes time to deal with the endless pleas of desperate players needing their million credit scatter pistols repaired.

And now, more so with every patch, we are being beseiged with requests for the new limited use schematic loot weapons. Now my time explaining what is required to make those items has quadrupled. It was bad enough when I was just getting 3 tells an hour about Krayt Tissue. Now were getting beseiged by requests for Sonic Blasters, Disruptor Rifles (or is it the DXR6 or the Tenloss? How many freaking names does one gun need??) Berzerker Rifles and everything else.

I, like most real weaponsmiths, take a great deal of pride in hunting for that iron or copper that has 10 more points of OQ/CD or chasing the "perfect" T21. But none of that matters now. It doesnt matter if I can make a 7.5 speed 410 dmg T21 when there is uber loot to be had.

Make no mistake about it. Thats what the schematics are. Uber loot. The devs say they want to keep weaponsmiths "in the loop". But hell, all these schematics (or krayt tissues, or uber looted projectile barrels) are doing is making me peoples personal crafting slave. How is that you ask?

BECAUSE PEOPLE AREN'T INTERESTED IN SELLING THEIR SCHEMATICS TO ME SO THAT I CAN PRODUCE A DOZEN OF THEM WITH MY EXCELLENT RESOURCES AND SELL THEM, THEY WANT THE WEAPONS MADE FOR THEMSELVES! It doesnt bother me so much that they want the item. After all they are the ones that found the rare schematic. The problem is, that I get nothing out of it. And if I get nothing out of it, whats the point of me being "in the loop"?

Even worse is when players bring me the schematic and want me to make all the uses the schematic can so that THEY can sell MY weapons for millions. Thats the biggest insult of them all.

The Devs have good intentions with trying to keep crafters involved in uber loot items, but this is NOT the answer. Its done nothing but make my life a living hell. What difference does it make how good a Laser Carbine or DX2 I can make? Those arent l33t. I gotta hand-make a one-shot schematic weapon using oddball resources like Duralumin or Diatium Copper????

As though that is going to enhance my business and reputation.

There's already a thread about this. Did you really need to starta new one?

There are plenty of weapons being sold daily. They're not all loot weapons. If you don't want to deal with loot weapons, then don't. But quit your complaining.

Being a new Master Weaponsmith myself, I too agree that the current and ever increasing cluster-hump of a loot system is really screwing the pooch. I have spent the entire time during my climb up the tree searching and mining the best resources possible hoping to make some of the best weapons I can make at affordable prices.

Just the fact that these loot drops occur seems to have dumbfounded the players in general. I've had countless requests for these looted schem weapons and have to explain why I can't at present make said weapons and in turn making a non customer out that player.

I had someone ask me what my best Powerhammer was and I gladly listed the stats for them and the very low price. The reply was "LOL". When I asked why my answer seemed funny he told me that he usually pays 10x that amount and that the one he is looking at right now on a different vendor has an extra 10pts max damage and was a loot drop. I said that loot drop doesn't neccesarily make it that much better, but he was free to spend that sort of money for the extra 10pts. He did.

So why bother with trying to make the best when something better might just fall after combat? They need to adjust the ratio so that schems fall more than the "uber loot", thus making the crafted weapon more readily accesible and still desireablewith only a few of the legendary items floating around. I know people like loot, but don't build a system on a player run economy then take away the viability of that market with "leet loot".

Your points are well made. I agree.

Since the person who found the schematic does not usually wish to share weapons made from it with the weaponsmith, there is little difference between finding a looted complete weapon and finding a looted schematic to take to an "assembly monkey". It's not fun to make limited schematic weapons.

It's fun to make weapons from a looted schematic with the normal 1000 uses. I enjoyed making the Modified Republic blasters, Enhanced EE11 Carbines, and Featherweight FWG5s. With the normal 1000-use looted schematics, the customer who found the schematic ends up with a few weapons and the weaponsmithalso has plenty to sell, and both are happy.

Please makeall looted schematics normal 1000 use, so the weaponsmith can enjoy making them and benefit from them.

Tell me about it my shop now reads weaponsmith shop tenloss rifles in stock one to a customer if you take more then one tenloss you will be banned.

Is this not the sadest thing you have heard of. A weaponsmith haveing to ban players to keep them from raiding up all of a particular weapon because you cannot make anymore without a schematic. I am selling them at thirty k a pop, and trying desperately not to have one player gobble them up and sell them on the street at three times that.

Also you have no choice in the matter if you want to keep a reputation. If someone else is makeing them you too must make them. Its not a pick and choose world. If you never carry limited schem weapons. People will find someone that does. So its like being pulled behind a buggy your comeing whether you like it or not.

Single use schematics for the new patch oh joy. Now I can hunt down oddball ingredients to make One weapon. Loot drops havent been fair for months either. I am sick of this question can you make me a poison carbine.

No weaponsmiths cant make poison ranged weapons.

Well I looted a poison cdef the other day.

the operative word is loot

Oh and we can never have too many threads about the absurd new system the devs are running now. Maybe it we moan cry and throw temper tantrums enough. Maybe we will get what we want it has seemed to work for all the other professions. If you scream nerf lowd enough it usually comes to pass.

as some one that just started MWS last month....i have to agree i sell only a handful of wpns but the loot onesi get from friends sells better then the stock ones (except in the case of vk's those always sell) in any case the loot system is mostly fubar cause the market needs time to adjust to having those subcomps available...new stuff is always overpriced....im finding geo cubes at reasonable prices more and more and the prices on the wpns is coming down closer to prices on my normal high qual wpns....my real gripe is add more schem uses for scythes before they are extinct.

I thought you could use one schematic use to make a 1000 use factory schematic ?

Note : they are a lot of "'use" in this sentence.

Note 2: I am not a weaponsmith..maybe I am wrong and missunderstood what my WS friend told me.

you probably could, but all the new weapons require looted components meaning that even if you made 1000 use schematic, you would practically only be able to make (X-1) number of weapons, where X is the number of identical looted components.

To the original poster....

if someone comes to you with a looted schem and asks you to make the weapon using all the uses on the schem so they can re-sale there is an easy way to make sure you get something... you do what i do .......

before you even agrre to do the work you tell them it's gonna cost them X credits for each item. Where X is the current price on your server that said weapon is notmally sold for.

e.g someone on my home server chimaera wanted me to make them 2 scythes from their schematic. The schem only has 2 uses, scythes go for around the 400K mark on my server so i told them simply that it was gonna cost them 800K. They either pay or they can **edit** off and find someone else to do it.

If you get ripped off by re-salers you onlly have yourself to blame.

Never said I got ripped off. Im fully capable of forming a good business model. Its the attitude of the players thats the problem with the system.

If a schematic has 3 uses I have no problem with making a free weapon in exchange for the other uses on the schematic which I can in turn sell for a profit and have these items my customers want. In fact I refuse to deal with people that dont agree with the above. I actually think this is what the Devs originally thought when they were making the schematics. The player that finds the schem gets one and the weaponsmith gets a couple to sell.

The problem is players wanting all the "loot". Alot of people think that since they found the schematic, they get everything from it. Who cares whether the smith gets anything from it or not? He spends all his time slaving for resources and dealing with idiotic questions because he likes it right? I mean, thats why he became a weaponsmith right? Wrong.

Players want loot drop items. This is the problem. There must be something that can be done that would be a benefit for weaponsmiths as well rather than just creating an even BIGGER pain in the neck.

I enjoy making weapons, the grinds you mention in the first post are all a part of running a business.

Limited use schematics, they may bother some, if they do, then don't get into the business. I like them personally. I like knowing that not everyone on the server who is a rifleman is going to have the exact same weapon. Different cubes provide different results, each a benefit in it's own sense (except white cubes).

The only limited use schematic I think should be upped is the scythe blade schematic. That should be upped to 5 uses per schematic, since there is no way to really mass produce these, and the quest is limited to those with level 4 in an elite combat profession. Let these last a bit longer.

If you enjoy making weapons, why would a limited use schematic limit that enjoyment. I was excited the firsttime I got a sonic blaster schematic. It was an honor to make the 37 sonic blasters for my customer and to keep 3 uses for myself was an even greater honor.

Since then I got 3 schematics myself, and I still have 4 uses left on the first one. Its jsut like any other weapon, when I get krayt tissue I'll krayt another and sell it, and then be on to 3 uses until I get more Krayt tissues, or a set of 7 yellow cubes.

Rare crafted weapons are a part of the game I like, knowing not every smith will beable to make a unique weapon, and any smith who makes them the variations of each will all be slightly different.

I wouldnt want to work under a new system where everything is closer to being the same than it already is. Granted my #1 passion is crafting so I will still craft under every system. My fun in running this business is in customer service, and answering the questions.

IMO it isnt the customers job to go to www.swgcraft.com to look up and understand how to craft a weapon. It's the weaponsmiths job to know everything about every weapon to beable to answer the customer who's only goal in the game is to kill effectivly, be it in PvP or PvE. THese questions are very easy for us to answer so take the 30 seconds to answer it, or have them shhot you an e-mail and answer the question when you have time.

I answer every single one of my customers within a half day, and I think thats what keeps them coming back to me. You have to be personable if you want to run a good business, they wont care you dont have the Uber FT-10000 Flame thrower that is looted from Jabbas fecces pile after doing the Jabba Themepark if you provide good serivce. Sure they may go to another smith to buy the FT-10000 but you will still have their respect where they will continue buying weapons from you, or any other weaponsmith that shows some sort of personality in game, who doenst ignore them because they think it's the customers job to know what it takes to make the uber weapons.
