Unacceptable. Let's get this verified and fixed if it is a problem for everyone.

I had quite forgotten that Berserker barrels -- ALL of them -- dropped without serials. If this is indeed a case of them being unable to be used due to the new fix, then it is both good and bad. It's great because, as you say, an 8 month old loophole has been finally closed. It's bad, however, because people who currently hold these components are screwed. SOE needs to institute a replacement policy AND make sure these components are coded to drop with serial numbers from now on.
Logix, if you could bring this to the attention of the devs, I think we'd all be grateful.

Yeah, I had this problem on Lowca. First CSR closed the ticket and pretty much said tough luck. The second one and his supervisor realized that this is an issue which they haven't been able to fix, so I have have useless barrels.
I believe it has something to do with the fact that the components do not have serial numbers on them and there was a new "feature" that required all items to have serial numbers in order to be used.
I posted this issue to Thunderheart's issue thread:

Sorry I forgot to post it here as well.

Some of you may hate me for saying this, But I am glad if this is working the way you say it is.
If this is in fact, the "fix" that stops the non-serial exploit, than I am happy that it is working. But of course, in the usual SOE style of bug fixes - One bug was fixed and yet another problem was introduced.
The fact that certain things cannot be made atm, because their sub-componentsnever have serials was more than likely an oversight.
Not being able to craft certain items is bad, but the fact that the subcomponents needed for these *never* had serial numbers explains why you cannot make them. This will be fixed, only question is when.
IMHO finally patching up a 8 month old bug, at the expense of not being able to make 3 or 4 items for a short while is a small price to pay.
Please read my "The issue that should not die" thread. The wording for this specific fix is in there. As well as the reason why this is a good thing, despite the inconvenience.

So Berskerer barrels DO drop with serial numbers? Hrmn. I've never seen one, but they may have fixed it, I suppose. Still, it would be nice to get our legitimately dropped components to work...
