Thread: DEVS: Why is Moderate better than Great?
Not sure if this has been addressed yet, but...
Why is it that I can craft better weapons when I get a moderate success instead of great or amazing during the expermentation phase?
Put together a Republic Blaster... "great" out of the crafting phase (like this really matters). All points into damage, get a moderate.Max again, get a moderate, max again, get a great. Final result is 65-199/2.6, not bad. At this point, I had filled the damage experimentation bar (no futher possible).
Craft it again with the same resources., same components.. "great" out of crafting, get three greats in a row to max out the damage experimentation, final result - 65-199/2.7. EHH???
I notice that whenever I get moderates it always ends up with a better speed rating. Damage values take a hit in that phase, but as long as you can fill out the bar by the end result, you end up with the same damage values as if you had all greats (I've yet to see an amazing during crafting so I can't compare). So the conclusion is it's best to have a moderate or two and then a great to finish off?
This happens with components too... Fix the logic in this please...

I have posted this before and I will post it again.
Moderate Success is very poorly named. Translate it in your own mind to Unusual Result. It seems to increase the range of possible results from experimentation. You might get better results than you couldwith an Amazing Success, or it could reduce the stats instead. It can even lower one stat and raise another.
Even though the mast majority of Moderate Successes end up with worse results, I look forward to the slim chance of getting a slightly better result than any other Smith on my server. I got an extra 10 min and max damage on blaster pistol barrels. This made my pistols the best on the server.
Moderate success appears to improve one or more values while reducing one or more other values. If the value being reduced is something useless like wound chance or one of the things that's always set to 0, a moderate is functionally identical to a great.
Your speed oddity is probably something with rounding and percentage changes.
