Thread: min/max damage, is this true?
this is sort of true
the higher your accuracy to the opponets defence the closer to max damage you will use.
Also damage pups are based entirely of off MIN. damage.
Min damage is very important but most people don't realize it's importance because of how the system works.
Lets assume for the sake of making this easy on everyone that your weapon has a min damage of 500 and a max damage of 1000.
Now lets also assume that your opponent has a totall of 250 defense, and you have a total of 250 Accuracy. If this is the case then you will consistantly hit them for 750 points of damage.
Now lets use the same scenario but with a min damage of 650 and max damage still of 1000. If this were the case then you would now be doing a total of 825 consistantly, an increase of 75pts of damage. Also keep in mind that the accurace vs defense will alter the damage done, if the accuracy and defense are equal then it will be the average damage Min+Max/2 = average damage. However as your opponent increases his defenses the damage will creep lower and lower getting closer to the min damage.
Lets assume now that we're dealing with the 500min-1000max again with an average of 750 damage with an equal opponent. If we now increase that opponents defenses to 500 while your accuracy still remains at 250, then you'd be looking at a consistant damage of 625 instead of the 750 you were doing before, putting a huge dent in your damage output. But even a 750min-800max damage weapon would ultimate be giving you better damage because of the very low damage range.
Another key thing to note is that powerups use min damage to calculate the added damage, so if you use damage pups then min damage is double important to you. For our original sample weapon 500min-1000max a 33% pup would only make it 665min-1165max damage
While our other sample weapon of 650min-1000max would come out at 865min-1215max with a 33% damage pup.
Just for comparison....
665-1165 =915 damage
865-1215 = 1040 damage
So min damage is a very overlooked and ultimately very important stat.

ok, I went out and tried it, to answer my own question..... I just read someone post that damage was based solely on max and I couldn't make myself beleive it, good thing too, it not true
(or rather it's true only if the opponent as no defense what so ever if I understand the above post)
here's what I tried.....
made 2 DH17 pistols, one 151-320 damage, the other (using +30 tissue) 116-319 damage.... so about the same max damage but very different min. If only max damage counted you would expect the damage output to be the same. (the second weapons is faster, but just makes it hit faster, I mean here the damage output per shot, not over time).
Then I went to test them out on lvl 21 lesser plain bols (I'm a CL 23), here's what I get:
1st pistol: ranged shot: 242 damage every time, placed shot: 266 damage, and aimed shot: 291 damage
2nd pistol: ranged shot: 229 damage, placed shot: 251 damage, aimed shot: 274 damage
Less damage with the 2nd pistol, with the same max (well 1 off, but certainly not enough for the difference in damage) and lower min.
Conclusion, max damage doesn't tell the whole story. Min damage is also important.
Yep as I mentioned min damage is an important stat, however you have to be careful in balancing out all the stats for a truely good weapon. If you focus too intently on min damage you can lose out in other areas, so while min is important and often overlooked you do want to be careful not to focus on it so much that it becomes detrimental for your other stats.
