Thread: Simple question (hopefully): How does weapon damage work?

I've looked around. Pondered the question myself. All I can think of is that the Dev's have tried to simplify the damage calculation formula's and in doing so messed almost everything up by trying to make things simplified....

Have you guys figured this out?

Pre-CU the min-max damage of the weapon meant something. Example: using Dervish2 over and over against a NS Elder would result in different damage amounts every hit... anywhere from 1100-1500 damage.

Post-CU the min-max damage doesn't work since every Power Hit will do XXXX amount of damage against that single creature. Every single Power Hit will do the same amount of damage and so on for every special.

Anyways I thought I'd give you guys a shot. Hopefully I'll have a better handle on what the Dev's did to combat.

Id be really interested to see the formula for this. The variables i would expect to see in this would be:

MinDMG

MaxDMG

Accuracy

CreatureCL

CreatureArmor

ToonStance

Distance Ratio - Multiplier based on range sweet spot.

Terrain advantage

Statepenalty

Stateadvantage

Anyone have a variable smelter to put this into an equation?

I think all the stuff in the above post is taken into account, although I'd love to be able to examine a creature/npc again to find out it's resistances, that is a tactical annoyance.

For the most part what I have noticed is that once your damage is calculated for the target, it doesn't change... in any manner that is able to be determined except from posture and specials. Posture changes seem to affect the amount of damage as well as specials like Critical Shot which appears to be anywhere from 1.25. to 1.5x as I've had a regular damage Critical Shot do 800 damage, then 1000 damage with a Critical Hit, but Placed Shot did 600 dmg with Critical Hit when it was only doing 400 regular dmg.

I'm not sure if this is what you are asking, but for the best explanation (of what I've seen) of how damage works post-CU, please look at this link:

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=game_guides&message.id=295071

In my testing it is accurate to within 1 pt of damage.

Although post-CU damange calculations were changed, I do not think they were "simplified." And even though the damage calculation itself is no longer "random", there is still variability due to hits/misses, critical hits, and other factors.

i "think" the critical damage multiplyer is based on the weapon acc mod - but i could be wrong just something ive heard floating around somewhere

When looking at that formula more and more it seems that if a weapons min and max are brought more in line with each other, the better damage it will do.

As you have pointed out on the Jedi boards MasterSheep, the Jedi weapon isn't as bad as we all think it is. I'll be more blunt, a saber crafted with top of the line pearls isn't as bad as what people think. My saber is 623-718 damage with 185 elemental damage (Dark Green color crystal). It's great in PvE and PvP at all levels of play... well until I run into a MBH/MCM /blah. My Elite carbine is like 556-1193 (with PUP) and when fighting CL 82 NPC's I'm not even doing close to what my Jedi can in damage.

Thought I'd throw that out there.
