Thread: A formal appeal to the looted schematic system
I like the current looted schematic system. It increases inter-profession dependency which is good for an online community. It also assures that the market wont be flooded with high end weapons, giving smiths a chance to make high profits of their rare wares. I work almost exclusivley off of looted schematics as it is the only way I've been able to turn a profit selling weapons at this point (going on 2 months at MWS).
Having wepaon smithspermenantly learn a schematic after using them a number of times makeslogical sense, but it would only serve to flood themarket with rare weapons and makeit even harder for new weapon smiths to break into the market. I feel that weaponsmith is a profesion that really begins at the master level and that the rewards of sticking with the professions are better resources (from having been around longer to pick up better spawns), the ability to buy better components, and extra exp points (from tapes).
The weaponsmiths would no have to constantly relearn the schematic, and the market would still not be flooded with the new schematics.
I mean they could even slowly give us the ability to make the loot components, as more and more weapons enter the game. Say for every 2 new temp schematic weapons, one "old" temp schematic weapon is made a permanent one. Kind of simulating the arms development in the galaxies.

The loo drop schematics don't increase profession inter-dependency. They're just another looted item that can be sold, like Krayt tissues, and Nym loots. If anything they've just increased the lottery nature of loot drops and further reinforced the galactic image of weaponsmiths as some form of cosmic slot machine that they're waiting to get a pay out from.
The only thing keeping a 'flood' of loot weaponry off my vendors is that the loot components drop in such small lots, which I'm told they're limiting even farther. The loot for the Berserker rifle drops in even smaller lots (i.e. of 1), but that is an idocy of a different color.

The new schematics being drop onlydon't make it any easier for a new smithto break into the market. As ever it is a case of resources and the built-in clientelle that comes from being in business for awhile. In fact I'd go so far as to say with the schematics being loot-drop limited use, and prices being 5-6M credits for the schematic, the limited use nature keeps new smiths out of the business of making them.
If it could be learned once and you'd always have it? It would be a reasonable investment for a new smith to go 'Geo Weapon Only', but with the schematics being good for such a small set of guns, and with a mandatory investment in other loot to make the guns, it's well out of the reach of a newbie Master Smith.

Maybe so, but that doesn't change the nature of the looted schematics. I'm still fairly certain that they're a bad idea, and they've increased the amount of time I spend doing custom orders, and reduced my game enjoyment.
Sadly, I think they're here to stay.
