The really funny thing is that DEs complain about how easy WS has it compared to DE. The reason being that if I sell a good weapon to someone there is the good chance they will come back when that weapon decays. When I sell a good droid to someone they most likely will never need another one unless they change professions since droids never decay. Seems like every crafting profession has it's own problems.

Easily? This is just not the case. Sure a player can find some uber loot now and then, but usually he will have to share what he finds with a friend or 2. The uber loot drops are not nearly so common as he is implying. Maybe if you have a very large guild of extremely active players all of whom have templates that are idea for PVE, you might fill one vendor page with uber loot in a month or 2. But even then I am pretty doubtful. Most of it will be junk.

Then he points me to a T21 on the Chil Trade board, going for 100 mil, and does close to 2k damage. How many of you have 100 mill in the bank? How long and how much work did it take for you to get it? Now think what this guy did to get his? Are you happy about that?

How do you know that the player buying it for 100mil wasn't a crafter? Besides, even if he was a combat player, it takes time and very hard work to earn 100mil pretty much no matter how you do it. About the only players that can make that kind of cash in a good amount of time are Krayt hunters and in the past Borgle cave campers. But hey, the Krayt hunters didn't set the prices on Krayt stuff, the weaponsmiths and Jedi did. Same goes with Weapon Experimentation tapes that people got from the Borgle cave, who do you think set the price on those?

What's the point of the endless hours of work, not to mention bankrupting yourself to buy parts, schems, and tapes, from the combat types? Now that loot is far far better then anything you can hope to make, why should anyone buy anything from you? Ok, they have to buy a few 10k weapons so they can go loot, but other then that...

Exceptional loot has always been far better than anything we can make. But fortunately it almost never drops. "A few 10k weapons"?? Do you even have any kind of clue what you are talking about, let's break this down. I will use prices on the Eclipse server:

  • Armor, Composite, 33%+ stun resist, 80%+ base effect: 1 million per suit

  • Food, Brandy, Canape, Ahrisa, etc. 100-200K+ per crate. (a hard working combat type goes through lots of crates)

  • Weapons, 33%+ sliced: 100-200K per weapon (thanks to wonderful repair logic thats lots of weapons)

  • Shield generators: can't recall the price on these but crates arent cheap.

  • Buffs 3 hours 30 mins: 10k each X 14 per week = 140k per week on buffs, and that's being conservative for a very active player.

  • Incidentals: BE Clothing, repair tools, travel, stims, vehicles, etc. all add up to a sizable figure.

And none of this includes things that most combat types feel compelled to buy: tapes for speed, accuracy, damage, defense vs. KD, etc.,uber weapons like Krayt Enhanced to make their hunts go faster, and droids or pets from BEs.

When you add all this stuff up, and you compare it to the income these guys make from getting a decent piece of loot every now and then, I think you will begin to agree that they don't exactly have it easy. In the end all this money he makes on loot goes pretty much to the crafters.

What I love is that the profession I enjoyed most, Pikeman, requires looted weapons to be even halfway decent in PvP.

I'm not a Weaponsmith so I can camp Nightsisters all God-damned day, I'm a Weaponsmith so I can make weapons for me to use.

As you can see, this account was registered day 1 of retail, and I've been a WS since Feb 03.

Today a client of mine was asking me how much he should charge for his new unsliced unpowered Power 5 that does 593 damage on the weapons vendor he's planning to put up.

He's not a WS, never has been, but he can loot these things pretty easily, or so he says, and with all the new uber loot he's finding he really thinks his guild can start a weapons vendor without even having a WS in the guild.

Then he points me to a T21 on the Chil Trade board, going for 100 mil, and does close to 2k damage. How many of you have 100 mill in the bank? How long and how much work did it take for you to get it? Now think what this guy did to get his? Are you happy about that?

So, my question, is it over for WS? Are we now regulated to providing nothing but 5k newbie weapons so ppl can go do the Diablo 2 uber loot grind? How long before the Dev's add Magic Find and just make it complete?

What's the point of the endless hours of work, not to mention bankrupting yourself to buy parts, schems, and tapes, from the combat types? Now that loot is far far better then anything you can hope to make, why should anyone buy anything from you? Ok, they have to buy a few 10k weapons so they can go loot, but other then that...

I can 't even begin to express how disappointed I am, though I should know better then to ever belive anything a Dev says, I did belive they would stick to the player driven economy. I know I'm a fool, but that still leaves the question, is WS kaput?

Oh, and before all the other crafters jump in laughing they should ask how long untill we see 2k Stim B heals? Maybe a25k ham droid? How about unsliced 95% armor? The list is endless, and sad.

Well you were getting a tad alarmist towards the end of the post, you do have some sort of a point. But think: That 100 mil T21? How many rifleman would throw 100 mil? How many even have that much? not many. The really good stuff like that usually ends up hanging on a wall, for fear it will break.
