No word on that yet, form the looks of the skill trees I'd say no...BUT that doesnt mean Shipwrights wont have to buy Heavy Warhead Mechinism's from us for Space Missles or Bombs.

I'd probably agree with Itchybacca. Shipwrights probably will have buy some components for us, I'd hope.

But the SE means that people will be spending more time in space, so that means less degradation on weapons, less concern about ground-based fightingfor a while, and fewer sales.

Meh. To hell with them buying anything off of us: I'm most likely just gonna drop WS and go do this when it goes live. WS becomes more and more of a chore the longer you do it. I figure I'll have 90% of any named resources in enough quantity to get a good start as a Shipwright, and if not I can sell off my WS resources and just buy what I need.

I do think though that if this is done right, WS should be a components manafacturer for the shipwright, along with Armoursmith, Droid engineer and mas Artisan. That's ifit's done right

We had BETTER be able to use that stupid heavy warhead mech.

And i dont anticipate much of anything with the shipwrights..... but i am assuming they will need parts from DE's/AS/WS/Artisan/Arch to even get NEAR completing a ship.

heres an idea...

maybe us weaponsmiths will be able to craft weapons that a ship builder will be able to add onto the ship during the building process. this could be a very interesting idea

I am going to agree with Omif here, every weapon that goes on s ship should be crafted by weaponsmiths as we are the weaponsmiths. The title isn't master ground based weaponsmith, it is weaponsmith. The title they have given to the ship builder is shipwright. Let them build the ships and let us build the weapons, we've been doing it and it sounds like fun. Additionally shield generators and Armor plating should be given to armorsmiths. New navigational droids for DEs and I'm sure some radom components to Artisans.

Actually judging by the skilltree I'd say there is a potential for WS. If I recall they get 'Basic Weapons' and 'Basic Shields' as a skillbox. Would imply to me that they can outfit the ships with bare bones stuff, but for more advanced stuff ship owners will need to see respective experts.

But I'll be going Shipwright at any rate. Need to switch things up a bit, even if we do get more goodies for JtL. Not sure on the market though, if ships never actually get utterly destroyed? Or maybe I'm just not remembering correctly.

They said that ships won't be destroyed, but the components will. So I guess it'll be like you go buy a fighter and engine/shield/weapons/etc, then when you get blown up you lose the engine/shield/weapons/etc and your ship will be at 1 health so you have to pay an NPC to repair (money sink).

If all ship components are in Shipwright, there should be tons of repeat business. If they're mostly scattered around WS, AS, DE then Shipwright becomes more of a one-time-sale profession like architects.

It'd make sense to put every ship component in Shipwright, but that would annoy all the other professions because they wouldn't be able to make any new finished products, and the only effect on their business would be a lot of shipwrights asking to buy huge numbers of components that could be put into something else and sold for 50+ cpu. The shipwrights won't want to pay end-user prices for subcomponents, so they'll have to collect every required resource themselves and get someone else to make schematics. This would make shipwright the most annoying crafting class and there'd be so few of them that they couldn't keep up with demand, and everyone who wants to play in space is screwed.

Interesting problem. I wonder what the devs aregoing to do.

It appears they don't know yet either.

Will classes other than shipwrights participate in ship building?

Currently, it hasn't been decided what resources will be needed to craft starships, and so it's also unclear what other professions (if any) will also contribute components. We still need to balance the materials needed.

Will we be making any weapons for the ships? Maybe actually utilize the heavy warheads schematic?

I personally think that with the advent of the SE the two new classes pilots and shipwrights should be something like the BH line, you get this skill and have no skill points left over for anything else. Force components from as many professions as you can to be used in building sihps, and push for an economy that requires shipwrights to buy their inventory from the other crafters.

I remember a year ago when all the crafting profession where like that. It sure didn't last long. So I dought they would do that to just one profession, especialy when that profession is going to FotM when SE comes out.

There are ways and there are ways. To enforce multiprofession input as a road block to actually bringing products to market (e.g. SG82 rifles cannot be made without control units) isn't really all that great.

However - to have it such that shipwrights can build baseline 'frames', and to upgrade components customers must see experts in the respective fields - e.g. you get basic lasers with your basic build, but if you want some supercharged turbolaser multitargetting broadside arrays you have to see a weaponsmith - you get basic shields but to get multi-rotational frequency shifting deflector fields you need to talk to an armoursmith- this is a passive use of multiprofessional input, which is what I'd like to see. It won't stop a shipwright from being able to bring products to the market that are in demand, and people will always take that and upsize it by seeing other professions. Expect to see Shipyard Malls spring up with vendors selling the ship as a base build, vendors selling all sorts of weapons upgrades, vendors selling armour upgrades, and vendors selling droid upgrades (this is all speculation based on what we know, which has already been firmly branded by devs are hearsay). Such enterprises would be highly successful of course, saving people from having todrive around. Want the best ship, the best guns, the best armour, the best droids?Go see it all under one roof at XYZ Shipyards Mall, just outside of Theed! And so forth.

The idea of being able to 'upgrade' components or replace as destroyed allows for this paradigm to be implemented. However seeing as ships are never utterly destroyed I'd like to see how Shipwrights will have repeat business, if once a ship is bought, only components needs to be replaced, never the ship. Perhaps something about the superstructure is shipwright only and is damage-able and replaceable.
