So my server of choice is down today and I decide to go read the Jedi archive stuff SOE have put up. Not that I wand a Jedi character but I had nothing better to use my playing time on.
Apparently publish 9 and 10 will make it so a lightsabres functions as a container where tuned crystals and pearls can put in to. And it will then be these crystals/pearls that suffers the decay.
Well that got me thinking why not do the same for all weapons. Let us make the shell, and the put in the barrel, power-handle, scopes and what ever else we wand, and then let the parts suffer the decay.
Then if only WS with the skills to make the weapon could open it to replace the parts, we would have a good system. If a repair or slice broke a weapon all it would do was brake one of the parts inside, so all the owner would have to do was take the gun to a weaponsmith and get a new barrel fitted or what ever.
It would also make weaponsmith a viable option for dabblers. A melee combat character could perhaps take the enough weaponsmith to be able to change the cores of thair weapons them self, but would then still have to buy the cores to if he wanted the best (or perhaps rely on loot cores).

I think such a system would do a lot to lessen the time a new master WS would need to catch up. As well as open the market for non-master smiths, and of specialised smiths.
For example someone might concentrate purely on making advanced blaster power handles, and nothing else.

The fact that they are doing to for the light saber's shows that the can make the code, and as they are making the code anyway then why not use it elsewhere?

Of cause there will be toughs that thing that unless you have had a fleet of 100+ heavy harvesters running for 8 months and use 5 hours a day on trailing around looking for resources you are not supposed to be competitive.
But how many of toughs people can there be on each server. 5 maybe? I belog to the group of people who think that you should be able to compete in with the best (in a small way at least) even if you are a casual gamer that only have one account and who is not involved in cross server trades or lot rental.

Hey dude everyones server was down today so i read this post. My friends and i think this would make an excellent idea but as per usual i don't think the DEV's will take it on they are to much ingrossed in making new things for the game then getting rid of problems and fixing stuff in game like decay on weapons.

You are properly right, the chance of a dev seeing this and it getting implemented is about the same as me getting hit by lightning while standing underground.

I call this "twiddling" and I've remarked on it in some other forums. I wanted to craft so that I could twiddle. When I found out that crafting did not work that way, I lost interest.

Twiddling is fun. It's the same reason why many folks play racing games. We don't want to win the races, we want to build and modify the cars!

An interesting idea. However, I feel that many people would see it as over-complicating the crafting system. Many of us, myself included would love the idea of tinkering with a weapon after production. But I think the system as it stands is probably about right. We have a great deal of influence over the final characteristics of the weapon by means of experimentation and of selection of quality resources. And if there's one thing I've learned from using this forum it's that no two Wepsmiths will do something the same way. In that way, our weapons are as unique as we are and I think this is good enough for now. Perhaps when they run out of things to change, we could get our hopes up, but for now I think only very slight tweaks will be made.
