Thread: Question about assembly and crafting stations etc

Hi,

Still getting to grips with this profession, and have some daft questions:

1) If I have a +15 tool, and use a +50 station, what exactly does this mean? Does it translate into bonuses to the assembly? How does it work?

2) Someone has left a +44 crafting station in a tent really close to my house. Are there any penalties for me using their crafting station or do I need to buy my own. Given its so close I'm inclined just to use it for a while if there are no penalties.

3) I've got 10 experimentation points, but find that the damage and speed on guns maxes out after 8 or so points, even though there is potential to put more experimentation into the damage line, and the last two points I spent don't raise the damage or speed. Is the damage/speed capped because of the resources I'm using (which are OK but not great due to lack of availability)?

4) I realise that for SEA tapes I need to get a +10 total to give me another experimentation point. Does the +10 apply to assembly, or will having just +5 help my assembly? I'm trying to work out if its worth buying a toolkit yet given I can't afford the prices to buy SEA experimentation and assembly tapes.

5) Bespin Port, it adds to experimentation, but in what way? Does it increase the success of the experimentation leading to more damage? or increases chance of getting a great or amazing success?

I think that's it...

Thanks.

basically, it means jack squat. Even with a 15.0 tool, 45.0 crafting station in a research center you will still get horse-sh** experimentation from time to time. And it seems to wave randomly and quickly from good to horrible in a matter of minutes.

Prepare yourself to be tortured by repeated Moderate Successes. Prepare yourself to lose a nice krayt tissue becuse the game hates you and decides to toss you a crit failure (when you have made literally hundreds of BPHes before with NO problem).

1) None knows for sure. TH says it does matter but no test have proven any significant difference. But better safe than sorry :-)

2) No penalties

3) Yes

4) I think all +assembly helps but have no idea how much it helps. But I know that I have not got a single critical failure when using Pyollian and having 10-15 extra assembly or so. But got criticals when not using Pyollian. Pyollian (toghether with +assembly) raise assemby to a level above where you can get criticals (or very low probability)

5) Bespin raise the experimental success so you get more great or amazing (hwoever I see not much differenc ein the number of amazing success) but I am pretty sure it raise the proabbility of all experimentation. So instead of getting a critcal failure you might get a moderate success instead. And a great isntead of a moderate (still get a lot of moderate success when using it)

I think it works like this

- Experimentation (skill or SEA): Give you extra experimentation points (yeah that is the easy one lol)

- Assembly affect the outcome of your initial assemblky (before you start experimenting). Production center and Pyollian adds to skill and assembly SEA. And oh yes FS assembly

- Experimental success mod: Increase chance of getting better results when experimenting. Research center, Bospin and FS experimentation are used (no idea if there is a base number and what it is based on)

But there are also a new stats which you can see in the new FS skills "Crafting technique". It is said to lower risk of failure during crafting. But is that not already covered by +Assembly?. Here is my guesshow it works:

When you experiment/assemble the computer "roll" (the "dice" is behind all games both conputer or board games) a random number. Let say 1-12. If you get for example 1-2 it is a critical failure, if it is 11-12 it is amazing succes. To this "roll" there are modifiers that is added. Let say there are two modifiers, one is adding to the roll. So if your modifer is +1 it will add +1 to the rolls so if it rolls 2 you get a 3. I think that assembly is that modifer that adds to the "dice roll". If the modifier is high enough you will never get a critical failure.

But there might also be another modifier and that is where I think the new (? maybe alwys been there but hidden or uising another stats maybe experimentationpoint). Instead of just adding to the roll it maybe instead modify what the range of the dice roll is, for example to the lower level. So if you get a +1 modifier the random number will be from 2-12 instad of 1-12 (when I think of it both modifiers might work on the dice roll ranges so assembly maybe increase the upper limit and have fixed limits so 11-12 is always amazing success even if the program rolls a number between 2-13 instead). This would not make it easier to get better than average result but instead lower the risk of getting a very bad result.

It might be that the different assembly mods (production center, base skills, SEA and Pyollian) are actually different modifiers. So maybe Pyollian work on the lower limit while assembly work on the upper limit.

Note: I am just guessing here. The only one who can tell for sure are the devs and they don't give out any numbers. It might be possible to guess how it works by testing but you have to do a lot of tests to get anything statistical accurate.

Yeah, tell me about it. I was making a Geo pistol the other day and got 3! moderate success. And before that I had been crafting tons of other stuff where I got all great success.

I have noticed that I get a lot more critical failures and moderate success when using a public crafting station, so I'm pretty convinced that the +44 one gives me a good increase somewhere in the process.
