Thread: Easy question from non-Weaponsmith

Hey all you Weaponsmiths!

I've been playing for a few months now, but never really had (or required) any contact with a Weaponsmith aside from buying their products, so really know very little about weaponsmithing. But recently something has happened that hasbrought up a few questions that need answering.

A couple weeks ago I spent a huge wad of cash on a shiny new sliced kryat pistol. After using it for a few days, I noticed to my horror that it was almost half deteriorated from its original 1000+ quality. Now it's even closer to being completely decayed. I'veused many weapons, including the same type of pistol (not kryat, though), and they have never decayed at such anincredible rate.

My questions are:

1. Are their certain factors that contribute to the speed of decay? ie: The better the weapon -the faster it will decay, or, regardless of its quality if it is made using poor quality materials it will decay faster. Knowing this may at least help me inthe future.

2. Can a Weaponsmith repair my weapon to it's original state? I've purchased and used weapon repair kits, but they only ever repair the weapon to halfits original quality.

3. As the quality of my weapon decreases does it become less effective or does it simply work as well as the day I bought it until it 'dies'.

Thanks!

1. Are you using powerups? they'll cause the weapon to decay 2x-3x faster.
Also some special attacks, like overcharge shot, will decrease the condition faster.
If I recall correctly, sliced weapons decay a bit faster than unsliced ones too.

2. Weapon repairs have been borked for a while now, you have about the same chance for success at repairs as a weaponsmith, just get the best reapir tool you can find and hope for the best...

3. Once you weapon starts getting below 25% condition or so, the damage will start to decrease, you'll want to repair it before that happens, because you won't get those original stats back.

Hope this helps ya..

Perhaps there is someone who could answer your questions better than I, but i'll answer them to the best of my knowledge.

1. As far as I know the only 'extra' aspect that contributes to decay is the use of 'specials'

2. Weapon repair is a bit of a myth, weaponsmiths have no greater success at repair than a non-weaponsmith, though some may say otherwise. Always repair your weapons when they reach 50% or sooner.

3. Your weapon will retain it's effectiveness for the duration of it's life.

Hope that helps.

/agree on all counts with Metai, except for the repair timing. I would repair far sooner than 25%

IMO repair bewtween 30-40% of original condition. You are going to lose about 20% of max anyway most times so you should wait as long as you can before taking the chance it'll fall apart on repair and repair it a few times as possible. How far down in condition it is doesn't seem to have an effect on the outcome of the repair.

1. The single fastest way to destroy a weapon's condition is the use of overcharge shot 1& 2 (especially 2!).

2. A weaponsmith can repair a weapon, but the condition will likely be reduced. I useweapon repair tapes to aid my repair skills.

3. Armor effectiveness drops when the condition gets low, I don't think weaponstats do.

2a. Due to the fact that weapons typically deteriorate with repair (condition, not stats), and I've seen no difference between a repair at 50% remaining condition or at 10% remaining, I always recommend repairing a weapon when it's around 200 condition left. That way you get as much weapon use out ofit as possible.

2b. One more quick note:This might sound like total common sense....but I've offered this advice before and I've gotten responces like "That's a great idea" ......The advice: Don't buy 1 weapon at a time. Buy 2-3 of your favorite weapons. Use the crap out of them....when the condition drops to 150 - 200 , simply switch to a different weapon. That way you're not forced to stop playing and go find a repair. You can repair your weapons whenever you want.

2b. part 2 ....plus..if you give 3 guns to a Smuggler for slicing...one will probably get a great slice. You can use that one when you need the extra kick...and use the others for grinding and such. In the end....this saves you money. Buying a weapon with a great slice will often cost you more...this is really a good idea.

2b part 3 ....just kidding!, there' sno 2b part 3.

In answer to 3 yes the stats start to drop at around 25% and if it gets much lower those stats become permanent even if the weapon is repaired successfully.

Repair -

This is incorrect. Apparently you WS's haven't had a chance to get out and fight in a while. Armor stats start to decay at approximately 50%, weapon stats will stay the same all the way down to zero. How to do I know, I've done it. Any high end weapon you have and want to keep I would suggest waiting until It is very low(I wait till mine are roughly 100-200 condition). I have never noticed a difference at all in repairing weapons earlier or later there fore you get the most use out of a weapon if you wait to repair it. I have repaired weapons at roughly 70% condition left and i've repaired weapons at about 5% condition left. The 70% condition failed and the 5% was repaired with minor blemishes. I have noticed the same thing with armor, the exception being that once armor gets below 50% your resistances start dropping. And NO the resistance dropping on armor is not permanent, as soon as the armor is repaired it goes back up to the full value. Frankly don't know where some of you guys get your info but try getting out and playing a little bit.

Decay -
Powerups will significantly increase the rate at which a weapon decays. Certain specials as mentioned will also decay a weapon much faster(overcharge shot). Slicing has been rumored to increase decay of a weapon though I have not personally tested that one(I get all my weapons sliced).

I have played and repaired several weapons. The stats were starting to drop at around 15-20%.

I had one sometime last week that was down to roughly 80 condition from approximately 1000condition. It's damage did not change at all it was a powerhammer with 648 damage at max condition it was still 648 max damage when at 80 condition and is at 648max damage now that it's back up to about 750 condition. Perhaps it was different before but that appears to be the way it's working now unless it differs for different types of weapons(possible).

Weapons will deteriorate as they approach zero. If you want I can post up a picture of my T21 which is approaching 100 condition and has sliced stats the same as when the weapon was first made. How do you explain that?

BTW, you need to work on your attitude..

As far as i noticed both answers to 3 are correct

I have VKs which got lesser damage at about 25% and i got some which are the same even at 20 cond left. They are all out of the same crate... so this is some kind of magic Some weapons get the flue - some don't

Apparently us WS's don't fight? I became a WS so I can make my own weapons for fighting! I will say that I've never noticed a drop in stats....but I've never closely looked. I'll research this.
