Thread: I can be so stupid Blade Vibro Units

Sometimes I guess I get in a rut and don't experiment around as much as I should. When I make Advanced Blade Vibro Units, I always do it the same way - max damage and put the rest of the points in efficiency. Mostly I do this to lower the HAM costs for VK's (wish I had 12 exp points!). But today I'm making a lance and the ABVU's are in a factory that's working, none in the house. It only takes one, so I start to make it. Suddenly it dawns on me that it might be better to do range rather than efficiency for this. The difference? For an additional +4 to HAM costs all the way around, I get a +8 on range going from +11 to +19. I'm sure that a 12 point smith will do better. I'm also sure that this would be even better for LVA's and VL's. Anyone else have a "DOH!" they care to pass on?

Um....it doesn't increase the "range" it increases the accuracy at "optimal range" so th equestion is:

Is the added accuracy worth the damage reduction? If the answer is "Yes" by all means, experiment that way.

No, it increases range to both point blank, ideal, and max ranges.
I have 12 points on Chilastra, MAX Exp on Range after Damage is maxed yields...

Long Vibro Axe v1.8.7
4.4 110-379 52.9% Wound
-18/-18/-15 range
78/66/34 HAM
931 Condition

Vibro Lance v1.8.7
3.9 98-304 36.7% Wound
1/1/1 Range This is +1, yes, +1
61/78/34 HAM
927 Condition

Pikemen LOVE these. I used to stock both HAM modified and Range modified and eventually just stopped making the lower HAM ones.

As for VK, I think it is still important to keep the HAM down because TKA swing so fast and if you are not at 1600 focus you can lost mind pretty darn quick.

I do the same for pikes. I make separate runs of AVBUs for pikes that are experimented for accuracy. Pikes need all the help they can get, and let's face it, HAM costs are fairly irrelevant anyway. My VLs are +1 across the board, and I think I've gotten the LVAs up to -18 or something. Still crappy, but way better than the -45 at all ranges they used to be.

basically the same here on Intrepid with 12 pts...
Vibrolance (AP1): 98-304 electricity, 3.9 spd, 36.7% WC, +1/+1/+1, 61/78/34 HAM, 929 Cond

Long-Vibro Axe (AP2): 110-377 kinetic, 4.4 spd, 52.5% WC, -18/-18/-16, 78/66/34 HAM, 929 Cond

even did a bunch of reinforcement cores for better range and did this with power hammers...
Power Hammer (AP2): 137-470 blast, 5.3 spd, 32.2% WC, -15/-16/-16, 115/37/25 HAM, 963 Cond

Power Hammer (AP2): 136-468 blast, 5.3 spd, 30.5% WC, -11/-11/-13 range mods, 115/37/25 HAM, 963 Cond

Putting points into range is what has gotten me to where I am today as a successful WS. Four months ago on WH the majority of weapons from the top crafters did not concentrate on range. I took advantage of this niche and its become a mark of my weapons.

Hmmm...I may be wrong....I know that when you experiment for range on guns, it only increases accuracy. I'll see how it affects melee weapons.

Same thing goes for making Geo Sword cores and Geo reinforcement cores for Power hammers and scythes. Always go with range. HAM cost on hammers, scythes, and pike weapons are negligible whereas you can really help the range with just a few exp points (and these weapons need the help!)

They really should reword lots of things.. Efficiency lowers HAM cost on everything but charged weapons (RL, Heavy Weapons), in those cases they increase the # of charges.
