do any servers have any sort of weaponsmith guilds? some sort of loosely grouped server wide systems that help new WS or monitor quality? is it possible? or would it be beneficial?

Well, from experience, most WSs talk to other ones. Its sorta the back stage bickering.
"I made a scythe with this and this and this"
"Well, oh ya, I made this and this and this"
Its not much of a guild or anything, but it does keep competition up. Almost every weaponsmith can make all the weapons with little effort. A good WS will get yellow cubes, krayt tissues, acklay bones, etc...
Its these WSs that you need to talk to and measure your products by.
As for forming an actual guild. Well, it would be easier on an individual I suppose... Shared resources and what have you, but it also kills competition.
Competition is what drives the weapon market. If you can't compete, well, you won't get sales.
Its an interesting idea, I suppose it may be worth testing. But I for one know i won't want to share my rare components with guildies... so I dunno. Could go either way I guess

dont think sharing resources would be a good idea, more for some sort of accounting, helping newbie WS (difficult too start...), sort of like a masonic of the weaponsmiths type thing....

Howdy;
Agree that many weapon smiths talk to each other -but- it is not about bragging rights. I have helped several folks come up thru the trade and have not ever felt it was on a competition level. There are two reasons here. One is that there are a LOT of customers, more than enough to go around. The other is the time vs. function of becoming a WS. A few of those I have helped along went away. It is a hard grind to set up shop and get customers. A lot of folks just are not willing to commit.
A Guild ?? Dunno what the advantage would be there. THAT sounds cut-throat to me. Some rules would help tho, and this is just me talking out loud while waiting for the server to load up.
[1] Each does different weapons. Explains itself. Without this the guild would constantly be having Internal Conflicts to resolve until it just dissolves from the stress of being in it,
[2] Would need more than just WS in guild. Still need those goodies and myself, I am a pure crafter. Combat macros of Attack, Peace and Burst Run do not allow me to go and fetch much.
[3] Pricing Scheme. This is the sticky point. Myself, I am not really into amassing many more Millions of credits. -but- That IS NOT the general feeling among WS, at least among amany that I have talked with. Just the concept of being guilded erases any Champion Of The Unguildedmentality (my theme, and not a universal one). The usual focus is taking care of guildies (and not even THAT in some guilds). Then and only then taking care of the general public interests.
[4] Potent Impulses to try and Control the markets. No matter how grand the initial group mindset was, this would sooner or later evolve as a concept of choice. Just human nature and good business sense, especially so if item [1] is a given. If each is getting a smaller slice of the pie, the pie begs to be larger.
Interesting and worthy topic, even so. I expect that point [3] will be a block to any group of WS trying to do a WS Guild though.

Instead of having a guild, having a Mall with all the Weaponsmiths vendors in it. That would make a haven for customers because with at least 5 separate Weaponsmith's vendors in the mall is there is bound to be a that one weapon they are looking for. The competition would be good because people can literally shop around a couple shops in one place and find the best price and product. Or the weaponsmiths could form a loose coalition and each makes certain types of weapons which would relieve the burden of having to make all types of weapons to stock their vendors. Of course each WS could still make special schematics and Geo stuff. Most commonly though having your own shop seems to be the best choice, I myself joined up with two crafting friends (non-WS) and we opened up Goleta Inc.

Not sure a WS guild would work too well, I'm in a Artisan Guild, we help each other with waypoints to resource spawn sites and there are two WS's in the guild. We help each other with WS specific resources, but never had to trade/swap resources yet.
Probelm is a specific crafting guild is that you get too much competition which not good for profit. Where a general crafting guild will help bring in trade for each other (E.g. a Chef may bring in a player who sees the WS vendor and then buys aPistol even though he/she has six already), two of each crafting skill is perfect that way you get a little compitition but not to much.

The most likely thing I could see would be a resource-share association which trades resource waypoints (perhaps a finders fee for the surveyors!) and resources. You mine this, I'll mine that, thentrade you brick-for-brick when the dust settles, is the arrangement I usually get into. Saves going to a bunch of harvester fields on different planets, since it seems like the good stuff always spawns at the same time.
