Started making some of these last night for the first time. Using My best materials, essentially the same things I use for a DLT20, I was getting stats somewhere in the 90-180, 6.1 range, whereas my DLT20 is 110-176, 5.2 or so. Range mods and wound chance weren't much better either. This isnt an issue of bad materials since the mythra copper that spawned was actually very good, just an issue of a superior and more advanced schematic producing a seemingly inferior weapon....

So what's the secret benefit of the Jawa? Different damage type? Is it more effective against droids as it says in the item description (and are there even enough droids/machines out there to attack to make that benefit worthwhile)? Does it just plain....suck?

I have a couple testers out in the field trying it on different things, comparingit side by side with the DLT20, seeing if maybe it has one of those magical Armor Rating things some people profess to know so much about because of an outdated unofficial strategy guide. Has anyone else done some testing with these things yet though? If so, share your results, i will be posting mine here as they come in.

Im not sure but the description says they are effective against droids. Try sending a tester of an ion gun to Lok to shoot up droideka's and see if theres any real damage being dealt.

Jawa ion rifles do stun damage. The only other gun that does stun damage is a tangle pistol, I thiink.

Stun damage is one of those rare obscure reistances that don't come up to much when fighting mobs. The DLT20a does much more base damage, but when your fighting a mob who naturally absorbs 25 % energy damage, the Jawa ion rifle is gonna stop the DLT20a in terms of overall damage.

The problems with the rifle is... it doesn't work on lairs, I've heard. Kinda hard to stun a pile of leaves. Also... good lord, the mind costs are high. The entire weaponsmithing tree needs to be looked at in terms of HAM. I'lll pretty much ALWAYS use a DLT20a because the mind cost is much much lower. I wouldn't mind using a high mind cost gun if it weren't for the fact that your slowly killing yourself.

Yeah, that's the plan for now, anyone else tested these yet? (i.e. shameless bump)

Stun is the only damage type that all armors are vulnerable to (including marine, stormtrooper, and mandalorian).

The only thing that has any resistance to stun is PSGs.

I used one of these baby's all throughout Beta 3.

They do do stun damamge, which is nice.

I never found that they were particularly effective against droids.. but I never fought to many droids either, I think it might just be one of those "throw it in there because we have nothing else to put" type things..

And they don't do any damage to lairs.. which sucks.

Some where I read the Jawa Ion Rifle is AR1 while DLT20a is AR0

If that is true and if I understand AR right the Ion Rifle should be superior to the DLT20a at least in PVP where the target is armored. Since all crafted armor is AR1 any armor with energy protection will immediately reduce the damage of the DLT20a by 50% or more. Since the Ion Rifle AR == the Armor AR there are no penatlties or bonus and it should just do regular damage.

Against non armored target the Ion Rifle should gain a 25% damage bonus since it has one greater AR than the target.

Not sure where this sits with PVE since it is hard to get AR rating from a mob.

The laser rifle is AR2 so there's no reason to use the jawa. Even against something with large energy resistance, you'd probably end up doing more damage with the laser because the jawa is AWFUL.

POKEY THE PENGUIN SIG REMOVED BY GARVA BECAUSE "Just because you are crafty enough to get around the technicality of it being a .jpg or .gif does not mean it is not an image, it is not ascii art, it is an image" SO HERE IS MY NEW SIG.

Hi folks. I'm on Flurry Server and I've been told the minerals for an E11 rifle are not availble, yet I can find the occasional Jawa IonRifle for sale.

So the question is, what good is an Ion Rifle? I have yet to figure out why the "above lvl 3" weapons seem SO much weaker than their lower friends. I understand from a crafter POV that materials make the weapon and these guns need special stuff, is there any reason? I mean does the IonRifle ignore some armor or something?

Bascially I'd like to know if it's worth trading in my old Laser Rifle (Decently Sliced at least) and buy and IonRifle and get it sliced?

Jawa Ion Rifle is AR1 with stun type damage and Laser Rifle is AR2 with energy type.

Personally, Id go for the laser rifle if they had the same DPS before accounting for AR...

So stun damage doesn't really do anything special then? I mean if it'd stop them in their tracks or made them stagger around before coming back at me those extra shots might be worth it.

Then there's the Spraystick. I mean it's a higher Cert than Laser Rifle as well isn't it? What's with the lower cert weapons being BETTER than the upper ones?!?!

I as weaponsmith can say that the reason why lower end models seem to be better than thier higher cert cousins is becuase the lower end weapons usually need generic material. Any metal can be used in some cases, so you just use the ones with the higest properties that are called for. With higher lvl weapons specific resources are needed, most people know this. However when that resource does spawn its just that resource, it may not have good qualities. The resource quality is what makes the weapon. Most of the high end weapons are being made with mediocre specific resources, whilst the lower end weapons can be made with high quality generic resources.

Be one with the nerf.
Let the nerf flow through you.
Only by accepting that there is no nerf will you truly gain controll.
There is no nerf, only balance.
