I'm not sure if this has been asked before, but I'vesitting here bored at work, and a question just popped in my head ... does anyone know if Weaponsmiths will be able to make weapon systems for ships when JtL comes out?

As soon as I found out about the prof Shipwright, this was the first thing I thought.

Go to some of the JTL boards though, and you'll find that most potential shipwrights want to keep everything related to ships EXCLUSIVELY for themselves.

Personally I think it would be a good idea. Armoursmiths too to design better shielding systems. Droid engineers would get alook in too with specialised astromech droids etc... and targeting systems maybe..

I'm not saying SWs shouldnt be able to craft and offensive/defensive systems, but they should be CDEF equivalent, and upgrades could be made by the specialists ... US :-)

Definatly, lots of other professions need parts made by a differnt profession, armoursmiths need a taylor, chefs need a bio engineer... on something as big as a spaceship it seems obsurd that it could all by built by just one man.

Shipwrights should be making ships. Weaponsmiths should be making weapons. Period!

I really hope it turns out like this, otherwise it's really going to be hard to integrate ground crafters into space. That said, none of us in Beta can honestly answer your question right now, otherwise it would violate our NDAs (and this thread would be promptly deleted). So, keep the discussion free from spoilers, guys!

One's gotta hope that there's some integration....seems like a good opportunity for it.

Ditto on the NDA line

NDA, lol..

Cmon ppl, anyone in JTL can just AIM or Yahoo any of us for the details and no one will be the wiser.

So how are the controls ? Improved from "feels like driving in the mud under a sheet of ice" ?

While it's true that other elite professions are somewhat dependent on another crafting profession (for example WS and AS need Artisan components for a few items, AS needs tailor for a few things, Chefs need BE tissues), what's being proposed here would make shipwrights utterly and completely dependent on three or four different crafting professions. Frankly, this would be completely unfair to Shipwrights, especially newbie players who don't have the money or guild connections to make it work. Logically itmight make sense that WS should make the ship weapons, but from a game balance point of view it wouldn't be fair to shipwrights.

Shipwrights should be able to build more mundane basic weapons and WS would be able to make more High end weapons for ships. Or better quailties.

I mean even somethng as simple as what sort of exisits now regarding subcomponents...

Ya know...Heavy Warhead mechanisms to make Proton Torpedos....

Or some other sort of subcomponent requirement.

I mean WS use some stuff from others, Archies use stuff from Artisan, etc.

Just share even a little bit of the luv

I am planning on them leaving behind all SWG ground players in JTL......in other words, I highly doubt there will be any inclusion of existing profs into the shipbuilding process. Will probably be the nail in the coffin for me...

Don't worry, the ground game isn't going anywhere. I think for the first month or so after JtL is released, most of the action will focus in space. But eventually the novelty will wear off, and players will start doing ground based stuff again.

Fasten your seatbelts and hold on....I have the idea that will save the day!!!!!

All you need is for the shipwright to be self sufficient. Allow them to make good ships with good armor and great weapons. A shipwright shouldn't need other professions to make quality ships.

With that said....I think that shipboard weapons like turrets should either wear out after time or be destroyed in combat....same goes for armor layers, radar systems, hyperdrive, etc. Additionally single use weapons like missiles need to be replenished.

Now how do you suppose a player will obtain replacment parts/ammo for his/her ship? I saylet them shop around. They can go back to their shipwright to get a standard replacement (High quality), or then can go to an elite crafter and buy their replacement components from us (also high quality).I would like to see it that way. Just the same way that you can donate aturret to a faction base, you should be able to donate aweapon or armor layer to your spaceship as long asthe ship has the capability to accept such items (Another shipwright feature).

This will completely integrate the Shipwright with the Weaponsmith and Armorsmith, without putting a restriction on either. Let's not forget that Han Solo and Chewbacca worked on their own ship all the time.
