Thread: question from a carbineer on ham
I know most of the issues on carbines from readint he threads now I have a question for you masters of weapon making.
is it possible to make a low ham lazer carb(bad damage output, spd 3.0-3.5ish) then use a nice krayat tissue to get that carbines max damage into the 270+range? or will experimenting the ham to low just mess up everything in the end?
It's completely possible to make a low HAM carb. BUT, the trade-off is the weapon will be slow and do much less damage than other crabines. Don't forget that most weapons are experimented to the max for top speed and damage (same exp. attribute). So, if you want to change something else like HAM you wouldn't have the as many exp. pointsto put into the dmg/spd.
Off the top of my head (I'm at work) I'd guess the speed would likely be in the 4's and the damage in the 100's, assuming HAM was experimented down to a minimum. Krayt tissue would change things a bit butI highly doubt it would put you in the range you mentioned.
Far better for you, instead of looking for a low HAM cost weapon, to go and get buffed if you are PvPing, or stop spamming your special moves while in combat. Only use your special moves at the optimum times.
Maybe suppresion followed by bleed, then just normal fire for a few shots. Wait for your Action bar to replenish a little then throw a few more speciials into the combat queue.
far better for you to try and sell a gun your customers would like instead of tell them how to play their character, gee after all this time ya think maybe JUST maybe i know how to play my character and am currently trying to find things that would work well for me in given situations??
thanks for you condesending post werrtZer your a true credit to the weaponsmith community-not
Titus ty for the explaination- i had no idea how the weapons were made really- why i came to ask. atm I am using a krayat e11 spd 1.6 max dam 203(269 w/ pup)ham 18/30/12 with medic 1st aid at 3 using stim b i can basicly crack off full auto 2 all day long for around 800-1200 damage, I was just thinking of ways to get a decent ar 2 carbine for armored stuff
again ty for the info
can you imagine a master weaponsmith mass producing low HAM carbines? they would make a killing just by advertising on the Carbineer forum. the field is wide open with no competition.

i am both a carbineer AND a weaponsmith. i picked up the latter only because no one was building any low HAM carbines. as a carbineer, it is my job to stun/blind/dizzy the opponents. sometimes there are so many of them that i am virtually spamming my specials. so i carry two carbines. the first is a low HAM variety that i built myself, the second is a high damage output weapon that a master weaponsmith sold to me.

HAM experimentation is nearly useless, full experimentation will only lower HAM by 10 or so and the damage/speed will be pathetically low. Might as well use a CDEF carbine if you're just doing stun/blind/dizzy because the base HAM on that is lower than anything else (except maybe the DH17, I don't remember HAM on that).
The problem with carbines is in the moves themselves, even an experimented low HAM one will use far more HAM than a rifle or pistol with similar costs. Best way to get around this is with doctor buffs, spices, or chef foods, then you can use your fast high-damage carbine and spam specials pretty much indefinitely.
actually, a low HAM DH17 is my weapon of choice. the HAM ona CDEF is the lowest, but a DH17 is only a few points above that but can produce quadruple the damage. the speed on the two are virtually the same.
i would venture to say that most people won't have doctors traveling in their squad. and the downs of spices really turn me off. fine cuisine is a great option, but i would use it as a supplement (rather than replacement) to low HAM.
i do appreciate this discussion. the more you guys reply the better informed i become. and maybe it will inspire some weaponsmith who is trying to find his niche in the market. iactually only have weaponsmith at 0204. just enough to make specialty weapons for myself and my friends. i have a friend who is a rifleman who can't find rifles built for his tactic. so i make him rifles that have a +75 bonus to hit at 60 meters because no one sells that stuff. i understand why the big business smiths create their uber damage weapons. unfortunately all the other smiths try to follow suit and no one is left to fill the specialty orders.whenmy groupfirstbegandevelopingour tacticsi /telleda smithtobuild me a specific weapon...and the guy kept arguing with me about it. being the paying customer, i just wanted him to build the damned thing. that's when i decided to dabble in weaponsmithing.
My DH-17 Snub Nosed Carbine is as follows:
2.2 attackspeed
96 - 227 damage (with a 32% min damage PU i get 121 min damage or so)
22 / 28 / 18 HAM - Hams on this are fairly reasonable.
my ranged mods on this weapon are borked though but for speed damage and low hams, this is one of the best i have come across.
my reccomendation, being a master carbineer, get a great DH-17 Snub made no scoe and no stock, get GOOD Krayt Tissue added to it ( i only had +37/ -.48 on this) along with a decent damage slice and u should be in like flint.
hope this helps.
Jennai has pretty much summed up why there are no master WS making carbines with low HAM. While you state that there is a market for such weapons, I can assure you that most people would balk at the difference in damage between a low HAM laser and a max damage one. The gap is quite large.
Weaponsmiths max out damage, because it's where we get the most bang for our buck. For every 10% worth of experimentation that goes into HAMs, the HAM cost drops maybe 1-1-1. Those same 2 experimentation points will get me a lot more damage and lower speed.
