Thread: Do the skill tapes now increase damage?

Hi, I just noticed that another WS has raised the bar in weapon damage. He maintains it's because of the perfect tools, and the +25, with foods, that he has in experiment.

I thought that max damage for a given set of resources was max damage for those resources? Seeing that until recently he was usually BEHIND by a point or exactly equal everyone else I can't figure out how he suddenly jumped about 5 points up on average unless it's the +25.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. (And yes, I have checked for new resources, no there are any new "leaders" suddenly out there that he could be using. :} )

maybe he acquired an older resource?

Or just realized how he could "optimize" (IE: Using an advanced barrel will often boost damage by 4 or 5 points, at a very minor cost to speed)

Guess I wasn't as clear as I could have been. I've pulled resources since day 1 of retail, and I'm fairly, 99%, sure that I haven't missed any, much less something that would cause a 5 point increase across the board. The increase I've seen is in all melee weapons, maybe in others as well but I haven't checked firearms.

I know of nothing that could do this to every single melee weapon that can be built, it's an across the board increase.

If it's the tapes then those that have them have an overwhelming advantage. I mean some differnce in HAM or Accuracy, sure, but 5 points min and max damagein every single weapon you build? Now that's advantage that would make the +25 a requirement to even get in the business.

What foods can be used to increase Experimentation points?

i'm going to go with the "schematics built on the pre-post-nerf-patch" explanation. generally with extra experimentation you could get superior weapons on that day. personally it's annoying to see other weaponsmiths selling these "uber patchday" weapons but what can i do? SOE didn't have the brains to delay the patch to remove the crafting change first so them's the breaks.

Saw they rolled in the new system, rollled it out the next, and back to the old. Was suppose to be no change, but if so then I'm looking to buy a clue how to account for the sudden jump.

I think what he means is that you didn't craft up a boat load of schems to exploit the hole the dev's were creating. I was on but didn't consider it kosher to take advantage that way, but that's just my sense of honor and I'll gladly live with the consequences.

I would guess that's more likely even if your friend is claiming it's experimenting tapes that are doing it. As far as I know, if you have the same resources I do we will both hit the same max damage, you might have more points left over, but you will not have more damage in the weapon.

So, don't worry, sooner or latter the resources will improve and all those schems will be worthless, until then you'll just have to live with it. (Unless the Dev's do something smart for a change and revoke every schem made on that one day.)

Correct, and the news here is? <GRIN>

I agree, the only thing to do is to wait it out and hope for a resource shift that lets you add the 5 points back in, at which point all of those schems will die out.

Down side is that might take 6 months to a year and I seriously doubt I'll be here that much longer. (Given this sort of non-sense what's the point?)
