Thread: A few questions from an anxious novice.

Hi folks. I just made the grind up to Novice Weaponsmith and wow, after an hour of making D18's (before i checked this forum) I was amazed at how slow XP was moving. This profession seems to really require dedication and commitment.

I have a few questions that may or may not be covered in the FAQ. I printed it and am about to read before I fall asleep. So i thought I'd go ahead and seek out a little wisdom just in case the issues weren't covered. Thanks in advance for your help/ advice.

1. Is it difficult to make it to 12 point weaponsmith? And is it really important as say it is to doctors? Can it be done thru off the rack BE clothing? And is it much much harder for a Wookie because of the lack of clothing options? Finally out of stupidity what exactly constitutes a 12 point Smith? Is it simply having 12 points to experiment with or is it having 12 above the base number granted a master Weaponsmith?

2. It's my understanding that you gain usage experience from hand crafted weapons.I was wondering how much usage? Does it cap? And secondly do you get credit if you use your own weapons in combat? is this a significant way to gain XP? This is very interesting to me. Any suggestions on what to make as a novice for best usage XP?

3. If my skimming thru the guide is correct, then you gain 10% of weapons XP from a factory run? So although it wouldn't be cost effective, in theory you could set up a couple of factories and just makes a zillion CDEFs and never have to craft? I only ask because I have CTS and the constant clicking can get to be much.

4. Are weaponsmiths exicited about the coming CU and new weapons? Is there optimism in the wepsmith community? And is the trade enjoyable for you folks?

I appreciate any advice and tips that can be offered. Thanks much and I'm off to read the guides I printed!

Let me try to hit each one of these for you. I am a new WS as well, but I have been interested and following the forum for a long time. Thus, my answers should be on the money.

1. Hitting 12 WS depends on exactly one thing: Money. Unless you are extremely lucky with what you or your friends are able to loot, the experimentation tapes will have to be bought. Often times, this involves winning an auction on the trade forum for your server. Unfortauntely, BE clothing does not offer any bonuses to a WS, though the Tailor-made Weaponsmith Tool Set does offer some small bonuses (+5 Ass, +3 Exp). Finally, a 12 point WS entails having the 10 points granted between Novice and Master, as well as 2 additional points from clothing attachments.

2. Usage XP does in fact exist for WS. However, unlike a doctor, where his stim is used all at once, a WS receives a very small amount of XP over the period of the weapon's life. I would go as far as to say that this whole process is negligible. It's a nice but small bonus, but I would never count on it.

3. You are correct that 10% of the crafting XP can be gained from crafting in a factory. However, you must be within a very short distance of the factory to receive the XP. It's not as though you can load up the factory and go do something fun. Again, this isn't really a major strategy for achieving Master WS.

4. I'll speak only for myself here. I am very much excited in the CU. I think it will result in lots of template switching and new weapons, so many, many people should be buying weapons in greater quantities.

Thanks very much for your well informed reply. I appreciate it. So as a master weaponsmith to achive 12pt status one would only need 2 points? Which can be gained from the tailored toolbelt? That's a bit of a relief. I was under the misconception one would need an additional 12 points above those granted from Novice to master. Thanks for the clarification.

It looks like my idea to saturate the market with 1 credit sliced and P'UPed CDEFs for Usage XP won't fly either. But that is also good to know before I spent a ton of time invested in making them.

One more question as for usage XP, if I may? Does this apply to fully handcrafted weapons including all subcomponents or can the subcomponents be factory runs as long as the final combine is done by hand?

Again thanks for your much needed information and help. And the very informative answer above.

Not quite. You get one point to experiment with for every 10 pts of experimentation skill you have. Which means to get to 12 points, you must buy 20 points worth of attachments, to go with the 100 pts you have at master.

with the tool belt you still need 17 points, usually priced roughly 1mill per point.

Also Cdefs are artisan items i believe. No WS exp from those

ouch!!! 1 mil per point

also I was just wondering how important the FS bonuses are and recomendations as to what a 10 pt weaponsmith might be able to effectively make and sell.

The FS bonus is great.

Ive never had a critical failure or anything less than a great success since i got those skills

a nightmare to grind tho.

Also FS doesnt give exp points, you would still be 10pnt

Lol - varies from server to server - I wish it was only 1M/pt on Bloodfin. Recently attachments that are +4 and higher have been fetching closer to 6M a point.
