Named resources. Six million named resources.

I've got three bags full of resources, and it's *STILL* not enough, and there are a bunch of things I can't make still (polearms, advanced blade vibro units)

as a Weaponsmith, there are *two* steps to becoming a master.

First, fill up all your WS skill boxes, until you hit "Master Weaponsmith" profession.

Next, resources. Weaponsmith is *the* most competitive crafting class out there, and if you don't have the resources to make competitive products, you will *not* be able to compete.

I'm sure armorsmiths have it bad, but they have the luxury of less competition, so there is room for error / lesser resources.

Also, as a weaponsmith, you'll be focusing 90% of your effort into damage and attack speed. Armorsmiths seem to (I'm not one, and haven't done it myself, but I've looked at a few sets of armor, and bought a set or two) have more choice.

IE: They can put different protective layers (stun protection helmets, special heat protection, etc), and create vastly different types of the same armor

weaponsmiths, everything except damage and attack speed are icing on the cake. If your weapon is 50 points more accurate than the next guys, but has double the HAM costs, or half the damage, most of the time your sale will move onto him (less and less players care about ham now. Just get doctor buffs + some brandy). Durability is a bit of a bonus, and I find myself putting my leftover points into durability on limited use schematics like the DXR6-b

I've toyed off and on with maby perhaps doing weaponsmith... but then I look at the list of named resources required and I just shudder and turn away. Armorsmith has waaay less named resources needed (mostly cause we only have 2 viable armor types), and even still I have tons of resources saved as an armorsmith.

If I was going to go into weaponsmithing I think I would end up specializing in melee weapons or something just to limit the number of specialized resources required.

heh, I know this is the weaponsmith forum but I was browsing and figured an armorsmiths opinion couldn't hurt .

I don't see one being easier than the other at master. I have an armorsmith toon and my MBH is very in tune with what makes his weapons work and how his chosen 'smith goes about his business.

Hides are a major pain for armorsmiths, and a major cost that just isn't there for weaponsmiths. The best wooly hide on my armorsmith's server is currently selling for over 150cpu (thank god I bought a ton when it was in shift @ 30cpu). Top quality leathery for Ubese isn't cheap either. It just isn't feasible to harvest enough on your own, so you're dependent on hunters. I can harvest enough minerals on my own to compete.

There are fewer named resources as an armorsmith, but most of the generics have such infrequent spawns with top quality stats that they may as well be named. Go to Shadowfire's forums and ask what geho is, and you'll get an answer that it's THE top quailty polymer on the server. Only one or two others even come close.

One area that armorsmith's have it easier on is keeping stocked vendors. The top armorsmith's on my MBH's server almost never have a good stock and don't take custom orders very frequently (if at all) and no one seems to mind. If a weaponsmith doesn't havea vendor full of every weapon imaginable at all times then they get forgotten. I suspect this is because the demand far top quality armor exceeds the supply.

In the end, it all comes down to what you as the crafter would enjoy making. I went into the artisan profession with an open mind and crafted just about everything in the engineering and domestic arts trees. Personally, I found armor crafting to be more enjoyable. Your mileage will vary.

Being both a weaponsmith and armorsmith, I can tell you they bothgive about an equal amount of headaches. To make every weapon, you needsdozens of different resources that you must keep watch over every day for the rest of your days as a smith. There are less resources to watch for armor, BUT if you miss justone of them you cannot make anything. Hides can be a pain, but if you just make composite it isn't so bad. You can harvest enough(50-100k)hides yourself if you play alot and run missions while buffed.

The only fundamental difference is when it comes to skill tapes. You can make the best weapons without any. The same goes for most armor (i.e 70% base composite), exceptwhen it comes tomaking layered items. A 10 point smith could make a 40% stun resist suit with a 60% base. A 12 point smith with the same materialscould make it 40% stun 62-3% base. You can argue for other reasons like ham or durability, but those are of little importance. If they were so important, we would experiment on them instead of damage or defense.

I feel that WS is a hard job but I have many resons for trying too be the best...Now what Xeilflow said about If you dont keep stock your gonna be forgotten Is this possibly true??, i know with my armor when i run out for weeks I see more people come in everyweek after restock.. Its crazy sometimes...I will be saving my steel For the day I get bored maybe and drop AS when I get bored of armorsmithing...
