After reading the thread on Stupid Questions Weaponsmiths Get, I have an idea.
I'm only a novice WS (0100) but perhaps our board could use a sticky called "What is the best gun?" When anybody asks us that question we can refer them to the URL of the message.
The message would explain that stuff that all Weaponsmiths have to go through daily, such as the names of the kinds of guns you can get (and what skills you need to use them). It might have a very WIDE range of possible stats for various guns (wide range, I say, because you can never be certain how it's going to come out, and not every WS is a master or has the best resources handy). It could even explain about the uber Krayt/Geo weapons and how they are made.
Since this isn't a trade board, there should be NO mention of prices or of the waypoints of any particular WS on any galaxy. This board isn't for us to compete, it's for us to commiserate!
Other forums have helpful hints for their customers; why are we content for our customers to be uneducated?
Just a thought, anyway.

I always say "It depends." I'm perfectly willing to help answer better craftedquestions, but combat specialists should be able to understand weapon speed, DPS, damage type, resists, and armor piercing in general terms.

Generally, I answer, "What do you need it for?", although I do have to say that the "one of each" is a tempting answer.
At any rate, when I ask what the person needs it for I have found that somewhat frequently the questioner doesn't respond.
I personally live by the "one of each" motto. I am also a master pistoleer... I even carry a striker. Let me modify this somewhat, not one of each gun, per se, but one of each damage type. A master pistoleer doesn't really need the speed the of the scout, so should probably switch to an SR, both being energy.
And there is no reason any rifleman needs a dlt20 and 20a /sigh
Anyway, if the questioner responds with any sort of thought out answer, it is usually easy to recommend a gun for whatever situation (s)he wants it for.
Just my thoughts,
