Hi. Only been playing for 2 weeks now, but I noticed something about crafting that kind of frustrates me. I made novice weaponsmith last night and set up today to make some D18 pistols and DLT20 rifles. The pistols went well, aside from the fact I realized that with experimentation my CDEF pistols were coming out better stat-wise than the D18s. The real problem, I found, was when I went to make the DLT20s.
Seems that one of the components of the DLT20 requires a component I cannot make yet. Why is this? I have noticed this with a handful of other items too, where I have the schematic for the whole item but not for all its parts. Isn't this kind of assbackwards?
Another little gripe I have with the crafting system is the critical failures. No, I don't have a problem with critical failures: rather, I have a problem with the amount of materials lost. Its especially discouraging for a new player with limited resources to lose 8000+ units of metal because he had a critical failure on a swoop bike. Why can't there be a system in place that assesses your skill level vs the fact you crit failed, and apply more moderate resource losses?
I like crafting in MMORPGs. I came to SWG from DAoC, where I had Legendary ranked crafters (the SWG equivalent of Master) in 4 of 6 trades, and 2 other crafters very close to Legendary. I don't mind the grind. I really went for the whole SWG crafting conception, the shifting resources, etc...its great, I really really like it. I am, however, somewhat frustrated by the fact I am somewhat forced to rely on other players (to make componentsI cannot) instead of just being able to craft the item myself.
Any thoughts/suggestions? Is there any way to submit this as feedback to the devs? Thanks in advance.

It's not just you, it _is_ stupid. And the instant this was implemented (DLT20 rifles came out months after launch) we pointed this out. Doesn't seem to have registered high on the radar in devland.
As for critical failures - well, they're just part of the deal. Vehicles hurt, but as you expand your scope and start pulling resources up hand over fist, it won't hurt so badly - specially when weapons as persingle combinedon't consume anything close to a swoop. What will hurt most is when you fail using difficult to procure components. That'll make failing at a swoop build look insiginificant.
There are foods out there (Pyollian Cake, Bespin Port) that assist on assembly and experimentation rolls, as well as city specialisations such as Manufacturing and Research Centres which you can take advantage of, but that's for later.
If you're keen on making DLT20s, only waysare to quickly attain Firearms 1 to make your own BRBs, or find a sympathetic older WS who has some spares laying about (or provide materials to produce).
Otherwise get your head down, blaze through those trees, but don't neglect your resource acquisition!

The DLT20 is a joke. Apparently their response to the complaints that novice WS can't make anything except crappy pistols and melee was to create an exact duplicate of the DLT20a and put that in novice. They didn't even bother to make sure all the components would be craftable, and have ignored all complaints about this.
Architects and jedi don't lose things on crit fail any more because they whined a lot. Everyone else still does because they didn't whine enough.

Thanks for the validation of my gripe, and the commisseration as well.
Nice tip on the food, I wasn't aware of that. So much to learn still.
