Do I get crafting experience for a factory run? If I run off 1000 metal staves, do I get the exp?

Yes, but not the same amount as you crafting it by hand. It's a very,very small amount 5-10% of the Exp amount.

Back in the day we did get 100%, alas that was back in the day.

Thanks for responding. Ok, to clarify: metal staves give 88 exp (practice mode) by hand...ifI make a factory run, then I should expect to get roughly 4-8 points per instead?

yes, but only if you're logged in and within some distance from the factory and the game decides to give you factory exp. it is very inconsistent and the exp yield is so small that it's not even worth messing with it.
